A little disappointed; no toilet facilities or directions to public toilets. Although the grounds were well kept and interesting, there was little to explore and not much information about the site. The local houses are extremely close, overlooking the site, so we can't enjoy a picnic. After ten minutes we left. Must be a lovely place for the local residents but not worth an hour drive with young children.

Very small and not much detail given about it. Could be better if they out signs up on what things were. There is a sign just as you go in that explains the layout but it can be obscured by the hedges so look out for it. That gives some information but not much. Very mossy so watch out under foot. Interesting building and glad we visited as staying really close but not worth travelling far for.

First English Heritage i have visited in the last 3 years. It was tucked away between a tow of houses opposite the church. We probably spent a max of ten minutes here. There is little to see other than the walled ruins of the old rectory. Impressive in terms of the thickness of the wall and the fact it has survived so so long. It will still be here in 500 years

If you ignore the fact that someone's back garden fence incorporates part of the ruin, this beautiful ruin is actually really nice. The grounds are very well kept and the Old Rectory is a charming place to visit. Don't expect to spend a lot of time here though, as it's not very big. I would recommend making your visit an all day event by going for a wander around the Warton Crag Nature Reserve just up the hill and having lunch at the George...
