A beautiful unspoilt and well managed picnic area. Plenty of free parking, wheelchair accessible, riverside walks with some seating (although unfortunately vandals chose to set fire to one of the best seats, razed to the ground and not replaced!). Kingfishers and otters can be spotted on the river if it's very quiet and at the right time of day. Two picnic tables, with a third a short walk away in another area. No camping (although that has not stopped some, who clearly can't read!). Only a short walk to a nearby nature reserve too, which is definitely...

I have driven past this place without ever stopping for years... until recently, and what a find it was! There are plenty of parking spaces, and from there you can walk either towards Lanchester or towards Durham. You can walk along the river for a little bit or join the old railway line straight away. It is beautiful, peaceful, with lots of wildlife. It will be a regular stop for us from now on for a stretch of legs. Enjoy it,...

1st time to Malton Picnic Area and it's so lovely. Got there around 6pm on a Wednesday and, despite Google saying it was a busy time, got very easily parked - lots of spaces and wasn't busy at all. The old train line track is wonderful and the countryside and scenery is beautiful. Highly recommended for dog walking, walking generally, running, cyclists and just having a picnic! :-)

Hard standing car park for plenty of cars, no public toilets, there is a small picnic area and when I visited there was a small van selling coffee , teas and cakes. Great area to explore a variety of paths in the area, especially the old railway path. Some of the paths are suitable for all abilities including those in a wheelchair.
