Generally run down and tired. My partner and I went to Lotherton Hall for an afternoon out. He remembers it fondly in his youth and was excited to show me. I was excited because I'm a big fan of country houses. What a shame! So many things about this place that could be fab are just sad and tired. First off we wanted and they charged £10.50 each. Not bad for a country home, but we had no clue what we were actually paying for. Nothing was explained and the person on the gate was not a happy bunny. We walked in and had no clue where to go (even with the map). There were basically no signs and no help. We started walking in one direction and realized nothing was up that path and wandered around aimlessly for a while. Eventually we figured out where the zoo was and walked to it. What a confusing mess. Signs everywhere saying "snow damage" etc. Some of the animals were in obvious distress, the place looked like it was closing down! The house was properly boring and was basically a store house. Very limited information available about the history of the home (the actually interesting bit). The volunteer when we entered the home was friendly and told us about where to go, but failed to give us any actually interesting information. I commented that it was a shame there was no information and another team member pointed out a sad old book of information about the artwork. The gardens, although impressive were sad and underwhelming mainly because of the lack of upkeep. The weird timings of the food stalls were not communicated (pizza finishing at 3 even though the place closes at 5, etc.) and when we asked they let us order and then told us they weren't serving. The Fashion exhibit in the house was laughable. The lighting was awful and the exhibition was curated so poorly it was as if school children had chosen it.
All in all this amusement has seen better days. Evidently management doesn't care. They are very family centric which is perfectly fine, however it comes at a cost of quality for the rest of the time. There were honestly so many bad points that I could go on.
There were good parts but they were overshadowed massively by the ineptitude of the management of every part of the experience.
Honestly one of the saddest and worst country park experiences I've ever been to. If I was a board member or a senior leader I would seriously be looking at myself and asking hard questions! Such a shame....
Read moreI used to take my children here to the bird garden 35 years ago and now it has all grown bigger to an animal park which is lovely so I come here with grandchildren and their parents. There are swings and playgrounds for all child ages with safety soft flooring and a resident ice cream van as well as a reasonable cafe but it is always too busy for the number of visitors so we often take our own food to avoid a long queue and pay a lot for not much. We do love the hall and grounds as it is lovely walking round here. Very lovely. The gardens are excellent with lots of colour, a woodland walk and rock garden with pond. The roses are also very lovely. There's a nature trail thro the wood. There are some tables and chairs in the horse stables if its raining. Plenty of benches to sit. It is a short drive from York or Leeds. I wish they would rebuild the toilets as they are not nice and they spoil the goodness of everything else. You would not want to put your bags or your family on the floors in the toilets. You can wash your hands with difficulty. They need to address the toilets here and make them people proof as it is my view that people are the ones that make them messy. The annual membership is well worth it. Parking is good. I like it here. The staff are lovely and very helpful. My family like it here and we intend to keep coming several times every year at least. It's a...

Cor, where to begin!
I looked on the website where it states £9.00 entry but it turns out it's £9.50. Not good but, let's get on.
I am only reviewing wildlife World, I have no interest in the house or the cafe or anything else.
The enclosures for the birds were In a generally awful state. There was a sign up saying we're not going to bother as the birds are nesting but I visited on 28th Aug, what birds are on the nest in west Yorkshire now?
Other enclosures were just devoid of life. Check the picture, this used to be a pool overflowing with water fowl. There is nothing there now and look at the maintenance. Is this place closing?
The Andean Condors have been evicted by a pair of Northern Pintails! The Cassowary has gone, those large ancient looking storks have gone, as has the ostrich. The Wallabies appear to have hopped off. Wherever you see water it's green and it stinks.
I did enjoy seeing the silver faced hornbills though the female looked like she could do with a jolly and the Inca Terns were good. Even the penguins were full of can't be bothered ness.
Since I last visited this place they have turned the engine's up to full blast and pointed towards the ground.
For twice the price the Yorkshire Wildlife Park is twenty times better than this place.
Perhaps the...
