My local beach. Love this open space, a different feel than you get from being inland. It's the mouth, inlet of the river Towy, rather than a conventional beach, but feels just the same. It's beautiful here, only 6 minutes from home, I'm lucky. It has a friendly local feel, a walkers beach, or rest on one of the generous seats, sun bathe, paddle on a board or feets in the cool clean water. Plenty of four legged friends exercising. You can get fish and chips amongst a variety of hot food, ice cream, lollies and beverages, if you arrive when their shutters are up. Toilets, a water tap to wash the sand from your feet and the sticky from your hands. The beach shop with refreshments, seating, and beachy type goods. Car parking is ample. A little adventure playground has recently been upgraded, great for the kids. If it's windy be prepared to maybe give it a miss if you are having a sensible day, the sand does get everywhere, especially I learned, under the bonnet from parking front on to the beach. If you want to collect a bit of drift wood for your evening fire, it's free as is a walk up to the Castle or around the headland to Scott's Bay. Stroll up the footpath between the fields and along to the pubs in the village for to quench your thirst. There's plenty for everyone, loads to explore, romance your loved one, enjoy a break with family and friends and importantly on your own you can feel part of a group experience. Once drove onto the beach for a BBQ, shush don't say, sometimes get myself in trouble breaking the rules. You may see the remnants of a family fire here and there. This is a wonderful place to take your time, experience a lift and even dare I say, to...
Read moreLlansteffan for many years has been my favourite place on planet Earth. It offered me a sanctuary of peace and I walk around with the coordinates of the top of the castle veiw over the sea on a necklace close to my heart. It was my get away place where things felt right and escape the outside world for a few hours a day. I'm utterly disappointed to find out the movement of paid parking being brought into the car park, taking away the tranquility of the beach, where you're welcome to just be. Instead, the decision has been made for next April where you must pay your right to be there, no longer a free day out for the kids or a spin to the beach for a fresh walk. It offers an electric charge point and a water dispenser now, but if that is at the cost of paid parking, remove it. It has been a specail place in Carmarthen for many years and welcomed many for free. It's a shame that the new ownership or council want to make money out of its visitors, rather than encouraging the public to take in the blissful area and be outdoors. Why must we always pay for anything nice, especially just to be outdoors when we pay ourselves to...
Read moreA lovely little beach. Can paddle when tide is in but not suitable for swimming due to the mouth of the river. There is a fish and chip cabin, an ice cream cabin, a beach shop that serves snacks, cakes, tea, coffee, cold drinks, ice cream, buckets, spades and gifts and toilets by the beach and outside shower. When the tide is out, suitable for fishing and digging for cockles around the other side of the rock at Scott's Bay. Lovely walks up to the castle and main village. On the beach is a children's play park with swings, slide, seesaw, and wobbly pirate ship with sand base and secure. Plenty of parking and benches to sit. On the other beach there is a toilet block and overnight parking for campervans with a huge green in between the two beaches. Well worth a visit, I loved it there as a child and still do, my children loved it there and so do my grandchildren. You will be surprised how tranquil it is there and yet fun for the little ones and it...
