A very pleasant and interesting area for a walk. Upon leaving the car park my dog managed a record 4 poos, which I picked up and deposited in the bin provided for such events. We then walked to the lime kiln, which is a well preserved edifice with plenty of explanatory signage, both textual and pictoral. Next we walked up to the viewpoint for a look out over the surrounding area, which was nice. After this we walked along the dry, former canal bed and then cut back across the edge of the golf course with our dogs securely leashed, at the highest point we were looking down on the viewpoint. The car parking was ample and the bays were of a generous...

Great heritage area to visit, and very educational for all the family.

The walk around the heritage centre is very interactive, with lots of information points and things to see. There is access into the kiln itself, which is dark but really interesting to see!

Dog friendly, with plenty of parking available.

Shops and pubs nearby if you want to make a day of it.

The walks are pretty easy going, and can be as long or short as you want them to be, depending on the route you take.

Highly recommended if your passing through the border village of...

This is truly a hidden gem. There is only limited parking, but this is free. Once out of the car park, the trails and paths are well maintained and signposted with plenty of information boards around the area. The old buildings and limeworks are very well preserved.

Zone 1 of the heritage area offers shorter, accessible walks. Whilst zones 2 and 3 offer more strenuous and longer walks which then link up with other walking trails too.

Follow the footpaths up the hill to find a stunning viewpoint and explore the old quarry at the top...

Wonderful place. Worth noting the visitor building and snack stand is to the right of the car park, we missed it when we arrived with the cars parked there. Lovely little and informative ride along the stretch of canal for £5 (Sundays and bank holidays). The kilns themselves are freely open with information boards with ramp access to everything we saw. Walking inside is rather impressive. Didn't manage to go to the top given I've got a fractured knee, but happily enjoyed a few hours there. Some very nice painted canal items in the shop.
