This place is beautiful, but first thing to note is that the only parking we found was a tiny carpark hidden away at the top of Underhill Lane, which was free but again very small. We live an hour away so we don't know the surrounding area well enough to know where else to park. That being said, I think Llanymynech Rocks are quite hidden so there weren't many people there at all. It was mainly experienced rock climbers and the odd person having a walk. Llanymynech Rocks is situated on the boarder of England and Wales. You can actually walk up to the view point area and right opposite, in the distance, you can see Admiral Rodney's Pillar (we did this walk the following week). When you begin the walk you are immediately greeted with a cliff edge (you are at the bottom with the rocks towering above you). It is like a wall of earth and quite enjoyable to look at while walking around the area. Eventually, you come to another rocky area with small hills and steep dips in the ground where the cliffs carry on and again a rock climbers heaven. There were a handful having a climb and enjoying the sunshine. We continued our walk around the area and oddly found ourselves walking through some gates onto an ooen golf course, which I presume they are used to walkers coming through from the rocks. A lovely little place to explore with very...
Read moreQuite a steep walk, and not really suitable for small children, due to the steep drops you walk by.
It was quite wet and slippery the last time we visited , and it was a little nerve wracking to say the least, especially with two kids along for the walk.
Views from the top are lovely, but the paths aren't the best if you're not prepared for a proper walk up the rock.
Lots of caves and different areas to explore, as long as you do so with caution.
Llanymynech village has a couple of lively pubs and a village shop and cafe, if you want to make a day of your visit. The heritage area and lime kiln is also well...
Read moreWe walked up to this nature reserve from the limeworks below. Steep walk up but the views at the top are worth it. There is also the limestone quarry and cliffs which are quite spectacular. There are loads of wildflowers and butterflies. You can also see the top of three draw kilns and the brake drum houses. Interesting bit of history along with views, rocks and exercise. I highly recommend checking out the internet for people making quicklime in a draw kiln as it would have been done on this site. It’s very...
