The castle was built around 1106 by the Anglo-Norman lord Henry de Beaumont, during the Norman invasion of Wales. The site overlooked the River Loughor and controlled a strategic road and ford running across the Gower Peninsula.

Visited Loughor Castle recently and while it's a bit hidden amidst residential houses, the site offers a fascinating glimpse into Wales' medieval and Roman past. The elevated location allows for some views over the River Loughor, though they're partially obscured by trees now. The site could benefit from better signage and an information board closer to the ruins, as the existing one is poorly located near a bus stop at the bottom of the mound.

The term "castle" might be a bit misleading; what you're primarily seeing are the remains of a tower. It's a quick visit but worth it if you're interested in history. The adjacent Parc Williams and nearby Loughor Estuary and Beach make for a nice extended outing. Overall, a small yet meaningful attraction if you're...

Although not much is left of this historic place there is enough to warrant a short visit to this historic place which is close to the beautiful Loughor Estuary.

Visiting is really easy as the castle is located alongside the main A4240 road in the village. You may be able to park on the road however, there is a small car park (free) close by (51.66332518930001, -4.078047165998971). I came here as I like my walks when my mind puts me too it I never really payed full attention to this castle that's on my doorstep it's not much left of it but what's left off it is in fact beautiful crafted castle that goes back to 1800s I could imagine this beautiful castle has alot of history ♥ great spot lovely views it's off the main road in loughour when weather nice...
