Now, as you drive through Skinningrove you could easily turn round and drive to Runswick Bay where its famous golden sands and its surviving thatched fisherman’s cottage tick all the Cleveland tourist boxes.. but hold out. For beyond the Moonfleet Guest house, you will find a tidy, quiet and approachable inlet and beach. If you follow the path north and through what can only have been a railway arch in times past you will find an expansive beach with no frills beyond the views to enjoy and towering headland above you. It is a sizeable beach with many a doggo to be found enjoying the space and tranquility that is only broken by the wind from the North Sea.

The trick here is to keep the positivity as you seek El Dorado, Skinningrove is a mining town and it does not fill you with joy as you move through it. However, I can only suppose on a sunny Summer’s day that beach easily makes up for any visual harms you may have encountered on...

What an excellent beach. Out of the way and quiet, it was while we were there, apart from a few dog walkers and hikers along the coastal path. A gem of a beach. We had our dog with us, who also loved the beach and playing with other dogs. A definite visit if you want a secluded beach. You have to park a few hundred yards away in a free carpark, be quick to get a space. We were staying in a cottage minutes away so was did not need a car. It's a nice walk to the beach, seeing the boat monument on the way, and the jetty. Unless you know, you wouldn't realise that there was the beach there, a real find. Next time it'll be a hike...

This is a hidden gem of a beach, feasibly one of the best beaches I’ve been too in Yorkshire. Scarborough, Bridlington, Robin Hoods Bay etc are all very good but nothing compared to Skinningrove. The beach is beautiful soft white sand, incredibly clean, and well sheltered. The water is crystal clear and shallow for a long way out so great for paddling. There are some toilets a short walk but otherwise unspoilt with no arcades or attractions or noise. I almost didn’t want to leave a review in case more people start visiting it, but trust me, this is a great beach and you need to spend a day here soaking up the sun, sea,...

Beautiful beach, unspoilt and sandy. Free parking available and lovely walk up the cliff to the right with breath taking views. At the low tide you can walk toward Hummersea beach. Many fantastic rock formations and rock pools. To the left there is most wonderful unspoilt sandy beach with wild birds nesting on the cliffs. This is my favourite beach around. A little bit of shame there is no cafe around but when you take a flask with a hot tea it is just perfect. Absolutely superb view from the cliffs. The beach is stunning during the tide in and out. Really pretty and worth a visit. A lot of dog walkers too. Free parking by the beach
