I used to always play on these fields when I was a child, as lived close by, the Triangle Park in Oval Road North was my playground and the fields lay at the back of the park. I know it so well as I have walked mine and many other dogs over Beam Parklands in my time. I am constantly drawn back to Beam Parklands in fact Christmas Day 2019, I went for a walk over Beam with my Mum as it was such a lovely day. We walked the path aside the Beam River, then across to where the old hospital used too be which is now a large hill, great viewing spot, we continued to the lake which runs into the River Rom by the time we got there the sun was starting to set on the lake, the light and reflections of the trees and everything was just awesome. There are still a pair of Swans on the lake and many other water birds too spot, it was just wonderful, then onto the bridge and home. This place just lifts me, once away from the roads you can be absolutely anywhere, your in the...
Read moreBeam Valley Country Park (Beam Parklands) is a hidden gem of green space in the middle of town. It’s a lovely mix of woodland, grassland, wetlands and lakes, with plenty of wildlife we spotted swans, ducks, coots and even a few herons.
There are good paths (both tarmac and grass), several entrances including from Rainham Frederick Road, and enough benches to sit and enjoy the scenery, though a few more would be welcome.
There’s also some nice local history here with old wartime defences, parts of the Romford Canal, and informative notice boards.
On the downside, the park does suffer from dog mess and too many off-lead dogs, which can spoil the experience. A bit more regular litter-picking and tree/bush maintenance would also make a big difference.
Overall, it’s a peaceful and pleasant place to walk, jog, birdwatch or just sit by the lake. A real bit of countryside in the middle of the city – well...

Wind blowing exposing the silvery backs of BlackBerry leaves, making birch leaves rustle & shimmer, & stirring the swathes of different coloured grasses giving waves of gold, silvers & purples above an infinite variety of greens dotted with clumps of wildflowers. Really must start...
