I was enjoying my time here today when I arrived (I'm not from around this area, and it is quite hard to travel here) as it's been on my "want to go" list for a long time.
It has stunning views of the Eastbrookend lake, which are used by anglers (you can spot them with their rods and camping tents). I saw a family of swans (cygnets too) approach my side of the shore as they somehow knew I had bird food. Apart from that there were shy Canada geese and coots.
However, what spoilt my visit was a man (angler?) coming to where I was standing and viewing the lake with my binoculars to ask what I was doing there. I said I was birdwatching and he said I can't be doing that near the water, I have to do it higher up. He said only those fishing are only allowed near the water and no one else is. I politely thanked him for the information but I thought it was absurd for him to say that as it doesn't really make sense. I've been to so many country parks and nature reserves, and although there are places which are only accessible to anglers (which are clearly marked on signs, or cut off access to the general public), I've never been to one where the general public aren't allowed the view the lake from nearby; I believe the gentleman was lying to keep me...
Read moreA a very beautiful place to visit. I got there on the 174 bus route and the bus stop is called "eastbrookend country park". One stop after "valentines way" (coming from direction that starts at dagnam park Square) Amazing lake to walk around. Lots of wild bushes and flowers. Feels like a secret world. People there with tents and relaxing. Not too many people , quiet quiet on a Tuesday afternoon 2pm - 6pm ish. If you walk away from the lake and further into the park there is a wooded area and more water. Open spaces. Logs to sit on. There is a place where horses graze openly and you can go over to them if you want to. There was a open space sat down and put a picnic blanket down and ate some fruit and spent nice time with friend in the sun. Didn't explore the whole park, would definitely like to go again and explore more and be in nature. Nature feels warm and safe and really good...
