Hackney Museum is a small museum in the Hackney area of London focusing on local history of the area. Considering the history of Hackney, a lot of the exhibits focus on the influx of people over the centuries and decades. The story starts with the Roman period, but the story rapidly shifts to the last 200 hundred years with a particular focus on immigrants and by extension the poorer members of society. There's also a small exhibition room which is currently dedicated to "black" music. Truly amazing to see some old school equipment. A real gem of a museum.

This museum tells the history of hackney’s settlers, food, music, and homes. It ranges from quirky and fascinating (eel shops & 200,000 BCE digging tools) to enlightening and kid-friendly (many different groups of immigrants /where they came from, photographs from the past, interactive displays). Definitely give it a visit if you’re in love with Hackney or need somewhere to take the kids in the daytime. Bang on some steel drums.

I remember coming here back in 2012 and wanted to visit again in 2015. It has the history of Hackney in different categories, fully illustrated and always with something for kids to absorb. I admire the enthusiasm of the organisers putting together different sections of how Hackney has changed. I had the feeling of being in a real Asian café in that part made to look like one.

Truly inspiring place that brings people together by celebrating our shared culture & history and giving us all the opportunity to share and explore new cultures and histories. This brings us all closer together in a way that enriches us all, as well as being really interesting, loads of fun and very informative. This place is the antidote to all the horrible news we read or see on the TV or web - a true source of hope.

On a more down-to-earth level, great education programme, nice permanent displays and interesting exhibitions & events. A fun place to hang out with the kids, with friends or on your own on any day of...

This is a very small (one room with an alcove room adjoining) with a lot packed into it. The alcove room houses different time-limited exhibitions that are significant and relevant for Hackney. The larger space shows the history of Hackney and its many facets - industry, home life, and architecture. I've found out many surprising local facts - Hackney is so rich in history - from farming, to entrepreneurship, to immigrants, artists and musicians. Pop in for a few minutes or longer. It's always...
