A wondrous architectural renegade from conventional church designs.
This chapel is round, which unfortunately was all I was able to distinguish from the outside, due to the fact some sort of business had rented the place out to sell clothing and charged £2.00 for entry into this two centuries old chapel.
Sadly the organiser (money collector) and apparent door guard not only prohibited my access but was also unawares as to when one might be able to enter this space for it’s intended purpose or even if it was ever open anymore for worship of any kind.
“I couldn’t tell you, we just rent it out.” Was all he said.
I managed to sneak a peek before his temper began to flare up, but inside was a lofty and spacious oval room, with green columns supporting a high balcony that encircled a main hall, decked with clothing racks and ambling shoppers, with a large golden organ at its alter, no religious imagery of any kind did I discern with my quick little eyes before I was ushered from the chapel for my inability to cough up the precious £2’s....a small fortune for a homeless bum!
However, my segregated groups allocation was in the rear of the temple grounds, in a rectangular chapel. Here, a help the homeless aid was in full swing, which is why I had come.
The pavement outside was filled with people helping themselves to piles of clothes spread upon tables lining the railings of the churchyard, all for free. I had a rummage and helped myself to a few pairs of clean socks and a new woollen jumper.
Inside the rectangular chapel was a cosy and spacious dining area where I was treated to a simply exquisite, elegantly presented dish of freshly prepared natural foods, truly a fine dining experience for the homeless, down or without a paddle!
I indulged in a lovingly cooked meal of tender seasoned potatoes and soft chick peas in a rich delicious tomato sauce with a side of cool yoghurt, garnished with fresh chopped parsley and topped with fried pita...
Read moreWe got married at the Round Chapel in October 2019 and cannot recommend the venue highly enough.
The Round Chapel is a wonderful, large versatile space with beautiful lighting. It is licensed for civil wedding ceremonies. We had around 250 guests for both the ceremony and the reception, a big Greek BBQ which requires a large outdoor space, we had a big mobile bar, huge hired palm trees and hanging baskets to give the place a tropical theme, and separate set ups for a DJ, an acoustic band, and a piano man (venue comes with use of grand piano).
The venue also has a private room which was used for the registrar appointments before the wedding and then various family members with babies used it as breakout space.
The staff (especially Irma) were very accommodating and helpful - particularly with the many visits to the venue before the big day.
We have a million happy memories of the day. Thank you again...
Read moreJust visited for Pigs Ear Beer festival but this is a great place for venues, events or its normal intended usage. Very Spacious, beautiful scenery (the Chapel has been redecoratedover lockdown) and lots of seating, if there is an event on the main floor abd you want to get away from crowds and need to sit down. Worth looking at the domed roof or organ if both are visible in an event or other function.
Over the Pigs Ear event there was space outside for toilet facilities and the whole building has enough space inside and outside to get around groups of people.
Overall a good experience thanks to the space and atmosphere of...
