White spider 🕷️ is far and above most centres.

I started climbing a year or so ago, and I am hooked. The centre has a diverse amount of climbs, from bouldering to top and lead. I took instruction at the centre and the instructor was awesome There were only 2 in the class and he (Richard) took lots of time to help us and show us both the right and wrong techniques, balancing instruction with allowing us to learn and make mistakes (safely).

I now climb every week (blue and white) and have improved dramatically allowing me the confidence to climb outside. But this is because the staff are just friendly, encouraging and engaging, there is never a stupid question and it feels like they are genuinely interested.

They set the walls on rotation and communicate in social media so you know what’s reset and what exciting things are coming

I also love that if you are inclined, they will engage in a little leg pull making it very human. But also if you get stuck on a project they will try help on the right sequence of moves

Can’t comment on the kids side, but the cafe is great we ALWAYS schedule a pit stop

Over all top place if you are beginner or advanced, can get crowded so worth checking quieter times if...

An excellent experience! We took our seven year old for the first time and she really loved it. She came away feeling that she'd really achieved something. We even fancied having a go ourselves next time. Excellent staff; friendly, professional, caring and fun at the same time, great with both the kids and adults. Safety is taken very seriously, needless to say, and the staff members attend to this on an individual supportive basis but still with a caring and pleasant approach, and a gentle humour to help everyone feel relaxed and secure. Super facilities; an expansive range of climbing walls for all skill levels (from young children 5-6 years to a member of the Olympic Climbing team training with a coach). Even the overall design, layout, shapes, colour and lighting creates a pleasing and exciting environment to be in. Good, hearty selection of really yummy food; delicious homemade cakes, tasty sandwiches on crusty bread, toasties, and a good range of drinks, (including real ground coffees), all served in proper ceramic cups and plates (which is such a treat nowadays), plus cold drinks. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for all of us and we will certainly be...

There I was, wondering what to do with the kids as they have done just about everything already when my better half suggested White Spider climbing in Surbiton. She had been recommended it by someone else so I thought I’d give it a go.

We turned up early as instructed and found a sign outside stating that they were at capacity and that someone would be along to let us in ASAP, which they surely did. On a side note it was nice to see that they had put up a couple of gazebos as the famous British summer was in full effect and it was chucking it down.

We went in, we’re greeted politely and told which area to wait in for our instructor Sue. She arrived and we were off. The group we were in was small (6 kids in total) and there were only 2 kids climbing at one time. The instruction was professional and friendly and the time was used excellently to make sure all of the kids has loads of opportunities to climb many different walls.

I realise I’m waffling. Here are the main points:

Great instruction Fantastic venue Good price Friendly atmosphere Great fun had by all!

They even had a cafe though I...

My son is 6 and this was his first ever experience of climbing. Matt was SUCH a phenomenal instructor - as a teacher myself, I was hugely impressed by his approach. My son was so enthused and Matt really fostered his confidence - by the end of the session he was desperate to come again and to sign up for one of the clubs! There was so much activity packed into the session, and the safety instructions and practicalities were made really clear. The ability to play in the Castle afterwards was another really nice touch, and the cafe is great quality and fantastic value. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend White Spider to anyone interested in learning to climb.
