Small carpark before you enter the museum and there is a charge of £4 each to look around, only 2 rooms which have more historic information on the walls than of the artifacts, there were a lot of the tomb stones that were unearthed that fill up the 1st room with the odd mannequins and some TV screens that give a video loop of spoken history and 1 TV that you can press different buttons to watch individual recordings. There are toilets in between the 2 rooms and the entrance has items that can purchase as souvenirs. It's ok if you want to learn some history about what was found and how life was back then but not a museum as I first thought, I took a few photos of what is on display. A nice place to visit if you're in the area and it's raining as it was for us. Wheelchair friendly but not so in the car park but as mentioned there's only space for 8-10 cars unless you park at the kerb like we did. I gave only 3 stars because I wanted more history of the area and not filled with...

Ok, so I really enjoyed my visit to this little museum. I won't go into the history of it's existence go and look on the web for that, but as a bit of an enthusiast when it comes to all things Roman this was a great little find. Admittedly not the most 21st century of museums but what it lacks in trendy style is more than compensated for by the quantity and quality of the exhibits. If you actually spend time looking around and reading the information about the things on display you will learn a lot about roman culture and beliefs, as I said for me this was great attraction not to be missed. Possibly a bit dry for younger visitors and you may want to stear them past the small section on the phallus in Roman culture. Overall for the small entrance charge this is a great value visit. Don't forget to have a wander around Maryport and the Harbour (maybe fish and chips would...

Ever wondered what the Romans were up to on the wild Cumbrian coast? Spoiler: quite a lot! 🏛️ The Senhouse Roman Museum is a hidden gem packed with ancient artifacts, including the largest collection of Roman altars in Britain. Located right next to the site of a Roman fort, it offers stunning views over the Solway Firth — perfect for spotting Scotland and contemplating ancient history at the same time. It’s quirky, full of character, and run by people who clearly love Roman history (and might secretly wish they were Roman themselves). Definitely worth a visit if you like your history with a view and a bit of mystery! 🏺👣 #RomanBritain #SenhouseMuseum #Maryport #HistoryNerdHeaven #MuseumWithAView

This was a little gem - stumbled upon it after heading to Maryport for the sea breeze, then checking local activities on Google Maps. This was a short walk from the promenade but there were no signs - a local jogger guided us up a path that rose behind a redundant toilet block! Magnificently preserved artefacts in a small but beautifully augmented museum. The two freelance guides present during our visit were also fantastic - highly knowledgeable and very friendly. Great value at £10 for the family.
