This is one of those "labour of love" restoration by current owner Anthony who commenced on the mission more than 25 years ago! We were lucky to get a personalised private viewing lead by Anthony himself who showed us around the upper part of the gardens, outside the main house & through the holiday cottages into the walled garden. We also were given a map to assist with our own exploration further.
Anthony explained that this garden's location on the isle of Anglesey had a micro climate of its own due to the gulf stream.
The gardens would be closed after October & reopen for winter in Feb next year - so best to check website before turning up.
Visited 5 weeks ago on 1 Oct 2024, the autumnal tones were not quite showing but it was still stunning with blooms & early autumn laden fruits. Set on a sprawling site which dips steeply into a wooded valley with cascading falls & flowing river Cadnant (you hear it before you see it).
This was part of our Tour & as usual we were pressed for time at the later part of the day. It was not open to public & as such the Tearooms were closed.
This was my final garden visit on this trip to UK & I could see the recurring design features that has been replicated in the older style gardens down under. Gorgeous garden with its perfectly manicured topiaries, wide expanse of lawn and the parts left to nature as it was...
Read morePlas Cadnant is a beautiful place to visit. As soon as you walk in through the gates, you're hit with the impressive view down the lawn, with it's pyramid topiary taking your eye down to the pond and the woodland below. The upper gardens have beds of hot colours in the summer. The lower woodland garden has meandering paths that allow you to explore the many wonderful plants, trees and other interesting features. A river runs through the valley, forming beautiful pools and waterfalls. Tours of the garden are run frequently by the head gardener and you get to see areas not usually open to the public. The café's conservatory has nice views over the garden. Pleasant outdoor seating is also available. It serves light lunches and their cakes are also recommended. One word of warning though... the silver teapots can be extremely hot! Wrap a napkin around the handle to pick them up safely. You'll often see the friendly owner of the garden helping out in the café or welcoming people outside. He's great to chat to if you have any horticultural questions. Accommodation in a number of on-site cottages is also available. As someone that visits frequently, I definitely...

Staying at Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens and Cottages was like being whisked away into a National Trust property – with all the charm, history, and beauty you could hope for, but with the comfort and privacy of your own space. We stayed in The Old Dairy, and it was absolutely delightful – unique, spotlessly clean, and full of character. You can tell every detail has been lovingly cared for.
There's a separate communal laundry room that's fully equipped, which made life really convenient. One of the best parts? Free access to the incredible gardens! Think secret paths, waterfalls, ancient trees, and stunning views around every corner – a dream for photographers or anyone who loves nature. It’s peaceful, picturesque, and feels like your own hidden world.
We would absolutely recommend it – it’s the kind of place you don’t just visit,...
