By some distance, our worst 'National Trust' visit I'm afraid.
The site isn't actually run by NT, but by a 3rd party operator. A flat £9 to park - even if you're a NT member, and regardless of whether you're staying all day or (as we were) there for a couple hours' break on a long journey - is frankly a rip off.
Chaotic car park arrangements - we had to walk a long way, because of a wedding. Massive queue in the restaurant, which was also dirty. There was a whole area cordoned off for 'cleaning' but no cleaning going on. Commercial operators everywhere trying to flog stuff.
2 stars not 1 because a) the food was actually ok and b) there was a friendly member of staff at the Gardens entrance.
To be fair, there is a lot to explore, but, unless you're going for the whole day, you don't mind being fleeced at every turn, and you enjoy being under the flight path of a major international airport, I'd give this one a miss - NT...

The gardens are amazing and seem to go on forever, providing so many photo opportunities especially when the rhododendrons are in bloom. There is a farm, but it is an additional £10 per adult even for National Trust members, which having been fleeced out of £10 by Cheshire East for allowing us access to the Parkland we decided to just see the gardens. The house we have visited before, the last time during the 'wizard of Oz' theme during Christmas 2024. The Park, Farm, House and Gardens are all priced individually for entry unless you are NT members then the House and...
Read moreTatton Hall is an absolute gem! The mansion is beautifully preserved, with stunning interiors, antique furniture, and fascinating history throughout. Each room feels like stepping back in time. The staff and guides were welcoming and full of interesting stories that brought the place to life.
The grounds are just as impressive. We loved wandering through the formal gardens and especially enjoyed the peaceful Japanese Garden—so tranquil and well maintained. There’s also a working farm nearby which is perfect if you’re visiting with kids.
Plenty of walking trails, picnic spots, and a great café too. A perfect mix of history, nature, and relaxation. Highly recommended for anyone...
