Come with us to visit Sherwood Forest Railway, this hidden gem is such a fun day out and really cheap too! You only pay for the train and the huge park is all free! You can take your own picnic as there are lots of tables and chairs dotted around. There’s an adorable little shop for hot and cold drinks, ice creams and snacks too! Highly recommend. #toddlerfun #toddler #funactivities #funday #fundayout #cheapactivities #train #steamtrain #trainride #oldfashioned #railway #park #zipwire #bouncycastle #slide #roundabout #sunshine #niceday #sherwoodforest #hiddengem #choochoo #fun #family #familyday #familydayout #familyactivities #familyfun #sherwoodforestrailway

This place can be a cheap hour's activity for the kids. Mine spent more time, and probably had more fun, in the play area than anything rail oriented. Actually, the rail part of Sherwood Forest Railway is a bit disappointing. The locomotive is a lovely piece of kit but the journey is mostly pointless. It's only £2 per person but the journey is five minutes to the other side of the field. When you get there is nothing to do but wait for the engine to change ends. You then have the 5-minute return trip. There are no activities, there's no talk about the engine or the history of the railway, nowt. Possibly the most disappointing thing about the railway is the staff. There was no enthusiasm or commitment to making things enjoyable for the children. In fact, the driver was a bit miserable. In summary, it's worth a visit if you are visiting Sherwood Forest already. Young children will probably enjoy the facilities and the ride and it's a fairly cheap way to keep them entertained.

Awesome and terrific miniature railway in the heart of Sherwood Forest. Although the railway and the site itself is small, it is still a marvellous and amazing place to visit with the location being very picturesque and idyllic. The admission for entry is £4 for Adults and £3 for Children which is very reasonable and the journey itself is a lovely pleasant, gentle and relaxing journey from Loxley Station from the main area to Weldale Station and this journey in total lasts approx. 10 minutes where you can take in the lovely picturesque views of the surrounding area and Sherwood Forest. On your journey you can see some interesting ornamental features such as Gnomes, Crocodiles and Eeyore the Donkey which are full of character and add to the interest and pleasance of the journey. At the Weldale Station there is an opportunity to relax where time allows and have a picnic during the Spring and Summer Months and at the Loxley Station you can see an interesting model railway along with there being an adventure playground which is perfect for children to left off some steam for a period. Visitors can either enjoy a journey on 'Pet' or Smoky Joe which are both in great condition and run fabulously. There is a refreshments cabin at the entrance where you purchase selling a small range of refreshments at reasonable prices and also in the refreshments cabin there is a decent range of souvenirs you can purchase at an affordable reasonable price. Overall this is a great and excellent place to visit which makes for a relaxing and tranquil day out. Well worth a visit whilst visiting the area of...

Not very often there's a play area for under fives so that was nice. Then we ordered breakfasts from Colleen's and we're told to buy drinks at the desk instead and pay for everything there. We paid and after a wait the breakfasts were ready, the cook then tried to get me to pay and argued with me that we had not, I said you told us to go over there and pay I'll go and get the receipt and eventually he remembered (this was after a while). I then opened the vegan breakfast to find no hash browns, went back and he turned the sign he uses to make the vegan breakfast has no hash browns but the sign ON THE VAN say two. Eventually he agreed to give me one he was cooking but said it was not on the vegan breakfast and we'd paid for two, so was still hungry and disappointed. Mushrooms werent really cooked, tomatoes blackened but some people like that which is fine and sausage wasn't cooked very nicely (they were Linda McCartney for anyone wondering) partner didn't have any complaints for fireman's breakfast but said some of his mushrooms weren't cooked and some were. Just on how anxious the whole situation made me and lack of value since the breakfast is priced to include hash browns I'll never be going back!! Which is a shame because it's really good to see a few vegan options on a menu and my one year old enjoyed the day overall.

Then we did the train ride which my one year old loved! We had a little wander to the fishing cafe down the road and showed our baby the cows and river which he liked. Great day out ruined by the attitude of the cook (I don't like to complain or...

What a little gem! We were looking for something to do with our 3 year old in Nottinghamshire as were stopping off there as part of a road trip back to Scotland. We found this on Google maps (Thank you other reviewers!) And were not disappointed. As we entered there was a bouncy castle on the left and so many things to play with! My son was ecstatic and immediately he settled in. We eventually found the Forrest railway and had a wonderful time going around the circuit. The train conductor was excellent and let me son sit in his seat once we stopped at the station. My son LOVED it, especially going through the tunnel! There were a lot of incredible toys to play with and even a race track with balance bikes and Little Tiles Cars. We would 100% go back again. It was a child's dream place. We spoke to the owner and let her know how much we had enjoyed their stay. Also they sold vegan magnums which was amazing for my milk allergy son. You rarely see them so made the day even more of a treat. Cannot rate this place more, so happy we stopped there and if we ever head back that way we will...
