We went to a pop concert here, and prepared ourselves to be stuck queueing to get in and out for hours knowing the country roads would be narrow and unsuited for heavy traffic. The temporary road signs warned of heavy traffic until after midnight. However, although there was some queueing, once on the main road it was fine. The car parks needed better management to ensure people stayed on tue road and let each other out fairly.... some tape down the sides of the lanes and better coordinated staff would have made a huge difference, but the initial chaos wasn't for too long. The car park had permanent public toilets (including accessible ones)... I didn't, but definitely a good idea to call on your arrival if you are a bit squeamish about portaloos like me!
At the event, people were selling VIP upgrades but it wasn't clear what you gained. We got the impression it wasn't particularly exclusive given the size of the area for them to queue, and we're happy without it. The security let in unopened sealed drinks and food, but asked you to drink or tip away open bottles. They advised that they could be refilled for free at the water stations inside. However, these were not labelled, we only saw one station and it was next to the portaloos and urinals, so in practice became a hand wash station and I didn't feel comfortable using it for drinking water. The queues for portaloos were quite big, so although there looked to be quite a few, I don't think it was enough for this size crowd. There was a bar selling pints starting around £6.50. You also had to buy a reusable plastic cup with your first drink for £1. Food stands included pizza (around £12+), churros, burgers, kebabs etc. They seemed clean and well run although a little expensive as is usually the case at this kind of event. I was pleased to see that a lot of serving dishes/plates etc were non plastic, and there were bins around the area which was kept tidy. It was a hot dry day so the ground was firm... I didn't see anyone with mobility devices.... everywhere is earth or grass tracks... I think good chair wheels might have just about coped with a strong push. Lots of people brought fold up chairs, and it seemed a good idea. Also coolers on wheels with their own food and drink were popular. Everyone seemed to get a reasonable view, helped by the slight hill rising away from the stage which had big screens...
Read moreAbsolutely brilliant. Great day out for either bike rides or a run if you prefer or even just a picnic. There are set runs and walk ways. Plenty of sign posts as you go around the woods. If you look carefully, you can see the wildlife. While on their bikes, my 3 sons spotted a small deer and it ran straight past them. Go Ape is brilliant for the children, just make sure that your child/children are really okay with heights, as a few children that were there on our day wanted to go on, then when on certain parts of the rope climb, they were scared and didn't want to move, which in turn prolonged the time and waiting for everyone else to move forward. They say an hour to go round the climb, but with how difficult it can be for some children, it can take up more time. Just give yourself longer if your happy to wait. It costs £25.00 for the climb at sherwood pines or £24.00, if you book on line. They have a height chart also. All the staff were very helpful and great at making sure all the children were in their harnesses properly, even after the first go round. Just be mindful of the actual height of all the climbs, as the last one is very high and has some very difficult climbs and holds, where your child may not be able to reach and they are literally, one wire to walk on. My youngest is 6, he was over the height for all three climbs, but to be safe, I didn't let him go in third climb and he didn't want to either. He got to go on the first on again though. Again the staff were very helpful and brilliant at their job. There is also a football area with two goal posts, plenty of seating area's, small mushroom play area, another play and climb area, which was £20.00 to go on. There is a bike hire shop if you need bikes. Hot and cold food cafe and kiosk. Definitely go again and next time, I will be going on the Go Ape course, as it...
Read moreReally disappointed with our recent stay, We booked what we thought was a quiet pitch amongst the trees away from the main camping area, all the same price but we wanted chill out time , we had a choice of 4 pitches under the trees, perfect! Then the noise started ! On the grounds next to us workmen were building what we assumed to be new pitches ,! This was really noisy with heavy machines and not the peaceful location Sherwood pines portray. We checked our emails and noticed a message had been recalled from Sherwood pines that mentioned the work but as it was recalled we assumed it wouldn't happen , we then realised the recall was because they included everyone's email address...big booboo!!
We mailed them at 0815AM saying work had started and why were we not informed at reception of this work right next to us or remailed back .?....they didn't reply until our last day at 3.30PM ...saying they were sorry and if we go to reception they would look for a quieter spot , hilarious! The workmen were finishing at 5pm and it was our last day! Ridiculous.....so disappointed with the service and the lack of communication from Sherwood pines and the security breach of sharing everyones email addresses! Really poor show Sherwood pines!
I gave 1 star because the toilets were ok...
Really poor customer service and they don't come cheap! If we were informed sooner we would have definitely booked else where..... and why would you do this work at the height of summer holidays ? ?! I hate poor customer service and this was the optime of...
