I called in Sherwood Pines Cafe today after a long walk round as I fancied a cuppa and something to eat. When I walked in there the banana bread looked tempting, but I could see all the large pieces were at the back of the display case and 'much smaller' ones were at the front! So you either accept that they do this on purpose, display nice large pieces and give you a small one at the back, or you accept that they are unable to cut same size pieces. I'll leave you to decide on that one. Seeing as I wasn't going to pay full price for a piece 40% smaller I opted for a sausage roll. When I bit into it the amount of grease was disgusting. It had already saturated 2 napkins in grease. I pulled the pastry off the sausage meat and it was sodden with grease inside so I didn't even eat it. That was a waste of £7.50 all in! If you didn't have high cholesterol before you went in there you sure did when you walked out. Terrible food. Extortionate price for drinks (£3.50 for a small latte) and apparently the black coffee is tasteless. Won't be returning here again and feel ripped off as...
Read moreI have been a customer of this cafe for many years. Being a member of Forestry England, I have visited as a regular biker, or just for breakfast with friends. When the cafe changed hands some time ago we noticed a drop in standards and value for money. Today we had the worst experience of this cafe. The staff were not exactly friendly, we had to ask them to remove all the cutlery from the basket because most of it was unclean. They did bring clean cutlery with our breakfast. The breakfast is priced above average for this area, but was lukewarm and the plates were cool. The coffee was provided without saucers, which is unusual and we were asked to wait at the counter for it, which is also unusual especially as they were not very busy. All in all that is probably the last time we will eat there and is causing us to question out Forestry England membership. What a shame, spoiling something we’ve...
Read moreCalled on 30th December after a walk at around 1pm and were really disappointed. It was busy so were very sympathetic, however service was terrible. Server kept walking off to do other things whilst serving, multiple times. Clearly under pressure and not afraid to let it show. Were told 30 min wait on 2 cheese sandwiches (ended up being 45). My friend who was behind me in the queue was told an hour wait so didn't bother ordering anything. She was also told 'a refund would be difficult'. No receipts handed out or offered.
Had run out of most things, including milk. No sign, just a scratty piece of paper at the till which was virtually illegible. Poor people were still queuing.
The service is usually fine and we enjoy something to eat after our walk. An having worked in busy catering so know the challenges, however could have been handled in a more...
