Not the best of Nature Reserves I have been to. It is relatively peaceful and tranquil surroundings with the airport, construction near the lake & construction company bordering the Reserve. The walk is nice to the lake but muddy. Not the best for wheelchairs when muddy and there are branches sticking up. The best bit was surprisingly there were alot of bird flying around which was nice. The ducks in the lake were shy! Due to alot of dogs by the lake. No bins or poop bins. In the car park construction workers and teenagers were smoking cannabis. The postcode for this nature reserve car park takes u to the village NE13 7AS On coach lane turn right on airport end. There is a smaller but the lake is better 3 miles by car to Big waters Nature Reserve NE13 7AZ just off sandy Lane.

This used to be a lovely quiet place to see wildlife, but sadly now it is just a huge mud pit, with fallen and dead trees. No drainage, lots of building work in surrounding fields, so definitely take your wellies, and be prepared for well trodden wet muddy paths, lack of bins for dog waste, only 3 in the entire reserve (that I know of). Used to see red squirrels here, but those are no longer there either. Heard a few little birds today, in the woods, and did manage to see 1 deer, but not 1 bird to be seen at the large pond. I'm well aware the weather hasn't been great these last few weeks, but it doesn't seem to dry out much in the warmer weather either. Disappointing 😞

A lovely place to walk and relax by the lake watching the ducks being chased by moor hens (I think). Plus the beautiful swan and the heron in a stand off. Ha, sounds like a war zone. Seriously, it is a very peacful and reflective space. We walk there regularly when it's not too busy.

This place makes me so sad! I don't know what it used to be like before surrounding construction started closing in on it but I imagine it was a lot more beautiful than it is now. It feels sad and soulless and the surroundings are noisy what with planes and construction, ugly factory buildings and barking dogs from the local kennels. This may be a weird thing to say but even the trees seem sad! I went the other day and there's a whole section fenced off now no doubt due to some sort of pending construction and lots of it is impassable due to flooding. It's a good place to walk the dog but it doesn't bring...
