Today 31st January was a dry, coldish day perfect for a visit to the North cave wetlands. We parked up, had a cuppa to warm up at the Little Butty Bus at the start of the car park(open 6 days a week til 2-30,stops cooking food at 2-15).Then we walked around the ponds, stopping at the hides as we came to them. There were lots of visiting birds, ducks etc.The bird feeders which are on the path which is alongside the North cave to Market Weighton Road were teeming with a great variety of birds. My birding friend spotted at least 5 varieties whilst we were there. There were lots of visitors especially in the hides who informed us of the varieties of birds, ducks etc that we didn't know. Very helpful people, thank you. We spent 2 and a half hours just walking around. As we walked back to the car park we had the bonus of spotting a Barn Owl on the hunt which just ended the day on a high. Great place to visit you lose all track of time. Highly...

Visited a few times at different times of the year and there's always something to see. The wetland supports a variety of bird species and with any wildlife watching its kind of luck of the day as to what you spot. We saw heron , sandpiper, egrets ,great crested grebes, pipit, geese, terns, kite, to name a few. We also saw blue damselflies, red damselfly, brown hawker and ruddy darters, plus red admirals, speckled woods, peacock butterflies.. It's quite a large wetland area with good accesible paths that would accommodate wheelchairs. The hides have ramps as well as steps so they can be accessed, too. Most of the hides have ID charts for those of us, not experts!. The loos are of the compostable variety and are at...

North cave wetlands is an excellent nature reserve. There is plenty of free car parking. One of the hides is right next to the road with a ramp and easy access for disabled people. The hides are very comfortable with opening windows and excellent views over the wetlands. There are footpaths round the edge of the ponds, leading to other hides. There are also public toilets at the entrance. There is an excellent large covered seating area with picnic tables by the entrance, opposite the Burger Van with very good views over the wetlands. There are charts and information boards showing the sightings of various breeds of birds. The whole area is very well maintained and is...

Let me share my thoughts on the infrastructure, as it made an incredibly positive impression on me. There are plenty of hides, all clean, with photos and descriptions – you can really see that someone takes good care of everything. The greenery is trimmed here and there to create little 'windows' onto interesting views. The bushes in front of the benches are also cut back/mown. There’s a nice sheltered spot with tables; a large free car park and toilets. Many paid nature reserves could take an example from you. Truly 10/10! Unfortunately, it’s quite far for me, but I’ll definitely be back one day. Ps: I saw a grass snake in the water 🤩

First visit to this stunning wetlands reserve. We travelled from Hornsea on a beautiful sunny day to spend a couple of hours wondering about this reserve with our binoculars round our necks. We spotted some wonderful wildfowl including white egret's , avocets and lots of geese. They even had composting toilets which were very clean with no nasty aroma. If you fancy a bit to eat or a coffee, they have a catering hut too. Will definitely be back, especially in winter where no doubt there will be a lot more wildfowl to see. No dogs allowed. AIl this and it's FREE ENTRY 😃👍😋😋
