An outstanding experience for all the family
My first visit to Standalone Farm. Absolutely brilliant from start to finish.
Admittedly, it was a cool damp Easter weekend day, but parking was easy and plentiful with a beautiful clear stream and daffodils alongside the road welcoming you in. I was hoping to see a Kingfisher, but not today.
Paying was straightforward and quick even though there was a small queue and the staff were relaxed, friendly and accommodating, just outstanding. You can tell they all enjoy being there with the anmials and helping the customers have a great experience.
The entrance into the yard reveals a map of the farm, facilities and what animals are where. The toilets are close by and the mens are clean and very well kept.
The variety of facilities is just amazing. Children's play areas are abundant for various ages. There are safe open ground picnic areas for kids with climbing and play facilities, a model railway which runs for just 20p.
The animals are plentiful and approachable, though take care with some of the ones that like to nibble your fingers. There are managed animal activities where you can get up close to the animals and there are special events throughout the year. Check the website or the facebook group out for more information. The lambs, piglets and calves are cuteness overload in the spring. The farm has have big animals, smaller animals and also have a beehive and open areas that appear to be left for nature. The animals are very well looked after and have lots of room on the farm. It is just a wonderful all round experience. At £7 entry for adults it is well worth it.
Just a small beware; the paths and the grass and soft ground can be a bit wet and muddy, well it is a fully working farm, so if you are visiting at the end of the winter or after a long period of sustained rain be sure to bring your wellies for all the family and a spare pair when you get back in the car later. A small piece of advice or request for the farm owners, please make the opening hours a little clearer and prominent on the website especially during holiday times (Christmas, Easter, bank holidays) and weekends which is when people are most likely to visit.
I'm going back again, no brainer, and will probably get a season pass. One of the most organised best kept facilities and activity places locally I have ever been too.
The only one that is close/similar in interest and similar in size relatively locally is the Shepreth Wildlife Park between Royston and Cambridge just...

Read moreBooked 2 tickets for me and my friend, and had my 4 month old with me, saw online that kids under 2 go free so didnt think I needed to book an extra ticket if this was the case (my bad.. seeing as due to covid they need to know how many people and little people will be coming so that was a mistake on my behalf).. however, was waiting in queue and the lady who called us over (we had already seen she had been rude to a co-worker) ; we scan our tickets and she says 'yes good 2 adults for the farm', (very bubbly manner at first) then said, 'HOWEVER you have a baby and have not booked them a ticket so you are not allowed through'.. the way she said it was so blunt but almost gleeful, no apology nothing around the notion of 'really sorry if it wasn't clear online but you needed to have booked a space.. my 4 month old tiny strapped to my chest couldn't go through.. it was highly embarrassing and a very strange encounter as she almost looked happy at the thought we were being turned away, she said the farm is too full and we cannot go in. I get it , as it was my bad for not booking my 4 month old a ticket... but at the same time so rude and unprofessional. I asked for a refund as I said it wasnt clear online, even on their board behind the counter it says kids under 2 go free , she said 'no refunds but why dont you book for another day'...
