Sandy underfoot once you've negotiated the pebbles so take beach shoes. There are man-made structures on the beach to minimise further cliff erosion but you can find spaces between them to get to water's edge. Note. No life guard. Follow safety codes for swimming. I would suggest Cromer for the children as there's nothing here but scenery and a few shops at the top of a fairly steep incline. Not great for dragging tired toddlers! Read moreBig sandy stretches at low tide, pebble and sand at high tide. Steep access, although there is a gentler slope a few steps further on. Nice promenade with lovely views out to sea. Plenty of space, decent parking (it gets busy early on nice days during the summer) and public toilets (open 24hrs Easter to end of October, weekend only otherwise). Often Lamartis ice cream van in the car park, from whom you get a cheery welcome and nice, reasonably priced ice cream. Part of the deep history coast trail, there are information boards available. Pay and display by cash or card/phone app (signal is fine), go down to the beach and head East- you will trek up and down to get to the beach between Overstrand and Understrand, with no structures/groynes/concrete, just beach, sea, cliffs, and peace!
It really is a gorgeous setting and well worth the twenty minute stroll to get here- take a picnic and a blanket/chair, and chill out for the day!
