This place is a gem. The museum has some excellent exhibits of diesel engines and steam ones too. The staff and volunteers are very welcoming and knowledgeable.
There are diesel engines, steam engines, telephone exchange equipment, radio equipment etc. The way the museum is laid out is very good too.
I think older children will get the most out of this museum. However, that's not to say younger children will not enjoy the museum as there are interactive exhibits in the telephone exchange and radio rooms.
There is a charity shop/ gift shop where all the proceeds go towards the running of the museum. The coffee shop/cafe is very reasonably priced.
Prices are £6.75 for adults, £6 concessions, £3.50 children, £18 family ticket (2 adults and 2 children)
I highly recommend this museum for a visit if you're in the area.
You'll need about 2 hours to complete your visit. My favourite exhibit was the marine/radio room. There was a Morse code exhibit where you can practice Morse code. You can also play the Morse code interaction of the ill faited titanic and rescue ship/ vessels...
Read morea mind-blowing selection of the most amazing items I have ever come across, myself and my wife were engrossed and ,literally, lost track of time being absorbed by exhibits which were saved from oblivion , i suspect by the saviours of the static and generating engine world. once we had recovered from the shock of such an impressive and thorough display we then found yet more totally phenomenal items of unrivalled fascination. The visit was enhanced even further with, friendly, knowledgeable and warmly funny footnotes and info on may of the exhibits. Without doubt an absolute gem requiring further investment and support from the wider engineering community. My warmest thanks to the team and fondest wishes for...
Read moreWe went to The Last Night At The Museum, event as always and absolutely loved it. One can just loose oneself watching the engines, smelling the associated smells and listening to the wonderful gentle sound they make. The place was heaving and the ladies in their 1920s dress and some gentlemen too, just added to the atmosphere. A huge thankyou to everyone involved for all your dedicated hard work in bringing these engines back to life and organising the displays for us to admire. It is very much appreciated. I could listen to the sounds all day and drift away.... I can recommended this museum as a place to visit for anyone in the area, young and old alike, something for...
