This is an excellent place to spend time with your family and friends. It is made and is kept with love. People working here are friendly and helpfull. The car park is free. It isn't large, but so far I have always been able to find parking. There is a playground for kids of different ages. The choice of what to do, climbers etc. isn't standard so isn't boring. There is a skate boarding (roller skating, biking) park, a bit larger than usually. There used to be a huge bird enclosure. A pity it's not supported and just stands abandoned. You can walk along the river. There are places for boats and canues (someone complained to me they get vandalised time to time, what a shame if really so!) In spring the grounds are full of white crocuses and other flowers. Unfortunately there is no benches along the river path. You can also walk on the large area of the grounds. There are various landscape features. You can find really well located sunny benches near the museum. There is plenty picknick tables, some with excellent views. A cafe could have had more options, but also it has all basic ones, can't really complain, my food was good. A lady serving us pointed out we can save using an offer, which we didn't notice at first, thank you! The museum is very good, defenetly worth a visit. I wish though that I could find out more about particular objects there. I am sure someone could have produced more text including stories from the past. It might be possible to put in in a phone app or just as paper text notes near the objects. A wonderfull part of the museum is a street with shops, postoffice, police station, where you can walk in and imagin yourself in the past. You can buy sweets in the sweets shop, also it's not as interactive as in Beamish museum where you can see people making these sweets. And the lady there tried, but couldn't really tell me more about which sweets belong to which era, how the recipies differ. A pity! There is a working cafe on this street, packed with customers, indeed! The enclosed park was closed when I visited. I particularly enjoyed the conservatery at the museum. Even though there isn't too many varieties of plants, but it's a very pleasant warm and sunny place, with beautiful floor tiles and heavy wrought iron window frames in white. There is also a butterfly enclosure separately somewhere else in the park. There are toilets in the museum, not sure about the cafe at the playgrounds. Hopefully you'd enjoy this place as...
Read moreLovely little trip here again. If you don't already know you pay once here then go back free the rest of the year! I think that's a bit of a bargain as there are so many exhibitions on through the museum. Presently there is one for Elmer and David Mckee. Ranging from mr Benn to Elmer and many more books and characters he has penned. There are dressing up outfits, lots of interesting media and toys to view and use. We learn a bit more each time. The museum staff are extremely interesting to talk to with their factoids!! Especially in the streets chemist!!! The victorians were awful 😖😱 🤣 We took part in the arts and crafts session and really enjoyed making an Elmer hat. The walled garden is very full with the most lovely fruits and veg, along with flowers. Some of which you can purchase. I love this as its a great learning capsule for children! From the walled gardens you could see the kites all flying on the museum lawns. We walked by the river and watched the swans, watched a Paddle boarder land. Perfect for boarding this river. A cafe is available in the street, sweet shop and toy shop. The museum also has a very well stocked gift shop. The park is lovely to take a football along to, its got a scooter/skateboard Park too which had lots waiting to use. Mini golf and various other kids play equipment we're available. There us also another cafe available outdoors in the park grounds, toilets are here too. A lovely morning spent here! Although we could quite easily spend most of the day, but we had to go...
Read moreA most opulent stately home set within beautiful grounds and stunning scenery. The house is open for viewings and has the most amazing out buildings as you wander through to the back. Truly a genius museum.
Once you step inside you get a feeling of being transported back in time, as you wander around taking in the stunning sites, whether it be the shops, stable and blacksmith, to the 18th Century Orchard or to the walled Garden, either way, you will be amazed with this time piece of history. It doesn't just stop with the courtyard museum there are some great exhibits within the house too, my favourite being the orangery. The staff are friendly and lovely. Added bonus of the ticket you buy, it will give you re entry throuought the year. One price for an annual ticket.
The grounds are vast and have plenty of space, whether its a big group of you who want to picnic, to those who want to fly kites, there is something for everyone. The playground has amazing things for kids to do and also for big adults who are kids at heart too, there's a great skate park too. Looking forward to going back for another visit and this time I will check out the butterly place that are on their grounds too. Plenty of parking with an overspill car park. I can see why Preston Park is popular.
Not to be confused with Preston Park Brighton which is something completely different to this Preston Park up North........
