Mundane and featureless walkway. You will miss the 10 car, car park, as the enterance is almost hidden with non existant sineage. However it's free.
Described as a pocket park and is anything but. This is just a 1 meter wide mostly dirt track sorrounding a massive lake, sometimes muddy sometimes gravelled. Almost impossible to see the lake as there is a thicket of bushes trees, and grassy marsh dividing the path from the lake. However there are a few openings, mainly meant as fishing spots here and there from where you can take in the view. Plenty of secluded spots for wild birds. We saw lots of swans, ducks and geese. One end of the lake walk meets up with a boating canal for a few hundred meters. Here you can cross over the road ( small hump bridge) with directions to tea rooms.
My dog was bored after half an hour, as no clearings or relief from the path. The whole walk around the lake will take at least 45 mins at a leisurly pace. Not...
Read moreGreat small country park near Ringstead. There's a good circular walk around the lake and some great birdwatching on the water and in the margins.
People you meet walking normally speak and, so saying, we had a good chat to one of the fishermen this morning.
At the top end of the circular walk, near the bridge over the River Nene, there is the brilliant Water Mill Tea Rooms which makes a good stopping off point at any time, with lovely food and a friendly welcome.
On the other hand, The Axe & Compass in Ringstead does decent food and is close to this walk. You've got a couple of good options!!
The small car park on the edge of Ringstead is adjacent to the path, which isn't sealed and can be rather muddy here and there in wetter weather. This is still a good place to visit. Kids will love it but they may need wellies and a splashsuite for little ones. Keep an eye on them on the lake edges!!
Great walk!! Fast becoming a...
Read moreNot the most exciting area however it's still a lovely place to walk. Ideal for dog walkers and anyone looking for an easy stroll. There are a few openings for fishing which also make great little spots for a nice view over the lake. The car park is free and not the biggest so I would recommend getting there early. We often walk from here to Denford and then back along the old...
