I have been visiting becraugs long before it was ever a park and has always been a place of interest and a great place to safely visit the great outdoors . It has walking and cycle and horseback trails through wild natural woodland where there is plenty of wildlife to be seen even when it is busy I have spotted wild roe deer 🦌 It is also a great place for dog walking and playgrounds for kids to play All for free There are two lochs the larger used to be used for fishing until the councils enjoyment police put a stop to all that and there are also two archery ranges one target and the other field archery next to the loch and a vusitir centre with cafe at the top of the hill near a camp site The only down side is when approaching from Linlithgow you will have to access the park via the notorious Preston Road which has 8 sets of tank traps (referred to as trafic calming measures or speed bumps) if not designed to rip the suspension right out of your vehicle on the spot then they will at least leave it in dangerous condition so you may have a terminal accident elsewhere !!! Then there's are a series of at leadt 10 additional sunken iron drainage gullies on the rest of the way worse than any pot holes. All to the shame of west lothian council roads department. But if you survive all that you will have a great day out any time of year despite council attempts to...
Read moreBEWARE THE VISITORS CENTRE Very very disappointed with the service received in the cafe. We (3 adults and 3 children - 18 months, 2 years and 5 years) visited the cafe to have some drinks and buy some food. We were not allowed to even sit down not to talk of being served. We were asked to leave the Cafe as they only serve 5 people to a table not 6. We bought coffee and bottled drinks and left for a walk instead. We came back to the Cafe later as we were all hungry. We were forced to buy a take away lunch and sit outside to eat as we were refused admission due to our numbers. Immediately after we sat to eat, it started raining. We packed our food and ran inside. We were then chased out the cafe and refused entry even though there were five empty tables. We were made to sit in the corridor by the toilet to eat our food in order to avoid the rain. The kids had to sit on the dirty floor to finish their lunch. This was very distressing, disgusting and disturbing for the kids and us adults. I was unable to sit on the floor due to my double knee replacement. It was very humiliating for us. No one should be treated in this manner. We were treated very unfairly and discriminated against. Its crazy the staff were more focused on their weird procedures that made no sense than the experience and decent treatment of their customers. Particularly in the setting of a...
Read moreLovely views from the top of the hill but the path walking up the hill from Linlithgow was excrutiating. It is difficult to get there by public transport, which is a shame, so we decided to walk there. Google says it's some 31 minutes on foot from the village- yes, for the birds, maybe, and downhill. If I had known how hilly it was, I wouldn't have ventured out. However, if you're fit enough for a long hill walk it's a great place to visit, a good walk in the woods which was also an Outlander shooting location. I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet. The sheep at the visitor centre did not get any close so we couldn't see them up close, however, one Highland Cow was kind enough to make contact with us. It was absolutely adorable. An unforgettable experience. The shop is nice, too, the lady there is kind and helpful. The toilets are clean and modern and in the picnic area there is a talking litter bin, which is solar power operated. It was really cool. One negative point is that there are no trees to give cover from the sun or the rain around the wooden tables and the benches- it's a shame, really. The loch was beautiful with lots of water birds like coots, swan families with fluffy cygnets, mallards with sweet ducklings, etc. There are lots of pine trees around though - a warning to those who are sensitive/allergic to pine oil and sap- wearing a...
