This small quirky castle is only open on a few select days per year and as we were in the area and its free we thought why not , really glad we did as this has more character that the more glamerous castles up north will never have , theres a real grittyness to the no frills decoration in the main hall and bed room and it does feel as though this was how they lived 600 years ago , shout out to the young volunteer Ian who must have said his introductory speech to every visitor hundreds of times as when we visited it was quite busy , if its open take a look as its a fascinating glimpse at life half a millenium ago. the outside can be viewed at any time and even here the castle has little quirks that...

Fantastic looking medieval castle right next to ugly modern housing. Built in the late 1500's and in remarkably good condition as it was continually occupied for nearly 500 years. In 1689 it became crown property after the death of the then owner in battle. Although not open you are able to wander all around its outside and there is also an...

Really different style of castle. If you're into castles this is quite possibly the best example of a Scottish Noble's fortified residence from that era. Organise a tour inside to see the best of Scottish nobility. Fascinating how this was the residence of just one family and had no garrison structure other than the castle...
