This is a fantastic little aquarium/discovery centre situated in the village of Lamlash on the Isle of Arran. The centre details the conversation of a No-fish zone which is lies just off the coast of Lamlash and around the southern tip of Arran to protect the existing marine species. The idea of the centre comes from local people wanting to protect the local marine wildlife after it was very close to being extinct from over-fishing and commercial in the area. The effort they have made is magical has it appears that the local wildlife appears to be recovering well. The centre has a very short exhibition about the history of COAST and why it was set up and the work they do in the local area and the exhibition talks about climate change and it's effects on the local area. There are fabulous small aquariums which are teeming with some wildlife such as Scallops, Hermit Crabs, Starfish, Shrimps and Anemones to name a few and all of which look very well looked after in these aquariums. There is a small book corner with a decent selection of children's stories for them to read and to be entertained which is a very good touch. There is a gift shop selling a small range of souvenirs at reasonable prices and also a small amount of refreshments at reasonable prices. The Centre also contains information about local trips out onto the Firth of Clyde and also details the recent sightings of the local wildlife which is also very interesting and exciting when you read what has been sighted recently. Overall this is a fabulous and fantastic little attraction to stop off at for a half an hour or so to learn about the excellent conservation work by the local people on Arran Coast. It's a very small Discovery Centre so don't expect a visit to fill a morning or afternoon; I was there, with two children, for no more than 30 mins. However, it was a really enjoyable and informative 30 mins where we all got to learn more about the sea, see some sea creatures and purchase some treats from the gift shop. A warm...
