Another visit to Arran and we managed two trips to the Old Pier where they cemented their position as my favourite place to eat on Arran (not an easy task as we had many delicious meals). We timed our first visit well and grabbed a seat to enjoy delicious soup, sandwiches and we finally tried the sausage rolls too. After that, we had no will power at all, as despite being quite full, we couldn’t refuse dessert and coffee. The cakes just look too tempting! The children took full advantage of being in holiday mode and ordered brownies and Victoria sponge which was declared as being even better than my homemade sponge(outrageous but they were right 🤣) and we enjoyed the carrot cake which was perfect. Our second visit was for takeaway cinnamon swirls and their amazing homemade poppyseed bread. It was lucky (for my diet) that this visit was at the end of our week as otherwise I could have easily handled cinnamon buns for breakfast most days! On top of the really delicious food, the staff are friendly and service is quick. Perfect for breakfast or lunch. Highly recommend. Go and visit - you...
Read moreExcellent food and staff very nice; good choice and good value for money: no complaints at all. The only thing that bothered me was that my very welcome tea, lovely baguette and delicious cake were all served in disposable take-away packaging - even though I was sat in. Only wooden, one-use cutlery was available too. Looking around at other people it seems everything is served in this disposable packaging whether take away or not, which is unnecessarily wasteful. All the packaging was marked as being compostable or recyclable and from responsible sources (good), but the bin in the cafe was a black bag so I fear it all ends up in landfill. Not good! I’d make a plea that this practice is reconsidered and those eating in served their food and drinks in the conventional way with crockery and cutlery. Any steps towards sustainability are...
Read moreWe used this as a stop off when cycling on the island. The selection of food wasn't bad, as covid restrictions were in place there was no place to sit as a tea room, it was a nice day so we were fortunate to be able to sit on the harbour wall. Business in the shop was steady but the person at the till seemed extremely stressed, when I asked for something to be done to a cake I got the impression this was an issue and felt uncomfortable, then she got the receipt request all wrong and I was made to feel this was my issue. That said I would definitely say for the moment this is NOT a tearoom, more a food takeaway facility. There are plenty other places in the villages on Arran to enjoy a sit...
