๐ŸŒŸ We had an excellent day here visiting from the viaduct! ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐ŸŒ„ The walk was stunning and totally worth it. We had a great chat with Hamish, who was absolutely brilliant ๐Ÿ‘ He let us try out the signal box lever frame and we even got to control a working signal outside the hut! So cool! ๐Ÿšฆ Hamish also showed us how the old signalling system worked using the old lever frame cleverly hooked up to screens in the signal box which was such a fun setup. He then gave us a look inside the museum and was a real pleasure to talk to. Lunch in the old dining carriage was a real treat ๐Ÿšƒ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ superb food and incredible cakes ๐Ÿง๐Ÿ˜‹ Just when we thought it couldnโ€™t get better, the Jacobite steam train pulled in ๐Ÿš‚ and the sun came out โ˜€๏ธ A perfect finish to a fantastic visit. Iโ€™d 100% recommend taking the walk from the viaduct, the views are breathtaking, and the museum was one of the highlights of our whole trip to Scotland! ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐ŸŽ‰

I had a trip on the Jacobite steam train. What a fantastic day. The staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for you. I had Anthony in our carriage. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining. As we're all the staff. There are 2 classes. I was in standard class. The seats were roomy and there was a table. A snacks/drinks trolley came round on each journey. There are toilets on board the train. We stopped in Mallaig for about 1 hour and 40 minutes. There are restaurants, coffee shops and fish and chip shops to have something to eat. There are also souvenir shops. There is a boat trip that you can take which you can do in the time frame. The views from the tram were breathtaking. Expecially when going over the viaduct. There were hundreds of people dotted everywhere waiting for the train. A superb day out. Well worth the money.

The museum and railway car tearoom are highlights of Glenfinnan. I've been dropping in occasionally for years, and the recent visit showed nothing much had changed in the last 10 years. Except Potter-mania has hit, but never mind. The museum shows photos and posters on the wall and several artefacts of the old days on the railway. The tearoom is small and the menu is understandably short, but the food was good. Both museum and tea room have limited capacity. If the parking is full, the facilities probably will be, too. On our recent visit we had good weather, which meant we could sit outside where there was plenty of room, and entertaining fledgeling robins wanting to share our food.

We arrived here after walking the Glenfinnan trail from the viaduct. As it was Friday afternoon in November, we didn't expect much open/around. As we were just reading the map and museum info. A man from the museum asked if we wanted to go in the museum. As we had literally just finished walking for the last hour or so, we weren't ready to do anything and responded politely. However, his response was definitely not what we expected!

'Well, we built the trail, but whatever' and went off in a huff.

This wasn't what we expected at all. It put a downer on our day, which is a shame, as the trail and view of the viaduct is nice. It does need work, though, as due to its popularity, it is heavily used.

If we had a better response from this guy, we may have said 'maybe in 10 mins' but basically they wanted money from us as other people have said although it is free, they expect a donation.

We had planned to donate via the QR code...

A Hidden Gem with a Warm Welcome!

Absolutely loved our visit to the Glenfinnan Station Museum! Itโ€™s a small but wonderfully curated museum full of fascinating railway history and local charm. The displays really bring the past to life, and stepping inside the restored carriage was a real treat.

A special mention goes to the incredibly friendly car park attendant who welcomed us with a big smile and helpful tips for making the most of our visit. Itโ€™s rare to get such a warm and genuine welcome these days, and it really set the tone for the rest of the experience.

The museum itself is in a stunning location right by the famous Glenfinnan Viaductโ€”perfect timing if you catch the steam train passing. The cafรฉ in the old railway carriage is also a lovely touch and a great place to relax afterwards.

Highly recommend a visit if you're in the Highlandsโ€”great for train enthusiasts, families, or anyone who appreciates a bit of...
