This is more than just an historic church, grounds, and burial areas, it is an ancient place of worship much respected by many. The home of the MacDougall's past and those military personnel who gave their lives lay along with many from all avenues of life. Although it is in a ruinous state, the Friends of Kilbride are working hard to give it a future and care for it and to help, donations are welcome. Read moreWhat a unique find. Located about 3 miles South of Oban this is quietly one of Scotland's most important religious locations. From the 6th century it has been a place of worship & pilgrimage for drovers and early Christians from Ireland. The Alexander II came here after he was crowned King of Scotland in 1214...later in the 1700's, the site became the burial grounds for the Clan MacDougall led by Dark John , Iain Cair a Jacobite sympathiser in 1715.
This is not a tourist hot spot but it's a must visit and even better if you get to meet Liam the site...

The older 2 were really interested in seeing the graveyard, and hearing stories about local people who are buried there. Liam Griffin, who started up the Historic Kilbride charity to restore some of the old church and burial ground,is almost always about, and is a fount of knowledge, and a great storyteller.
