This place is beautiful. The whole loch area is beautiful and well managed, and on the way round a lovely little area with fairy art and doors. As for the castle: Yes you can't access the ruins as it's unsafe and yes it's a ruin, it's clearly mentioned on the information for the area, however you can still walk around it and look at it and get a feel of the history of it. There is also lots of information boards up which are great, telling you about the history of the castle. If you are like me and spiritual and love old history and castles, and the feel and energy of places and not loads of people around, then it's for you, no one else was there when we were. If you are expecting something big that you can get inside and more people around, it's not for you. We had it to ourselves, we are from Yorkshire and...

There are swarms of midges and nasty biting horse flies (I got a nasty bite and 3 weeks later it...

The few remaining walls are very impressive and there are some good information boards around explaining the history of the site. As others have mentioned the approach road is very bumpy and full of pot holes so be careful if you have low clearance or delicate vehicle! While there are other, far better preserved castles this one is well worth a visit for it's peaceful and tranquil...
