My son (12) and I went Coasteering with Ocean Vertical at the weekend. We had not done this before, but have tried various similar experiences and so were excited, but only partially knew what to expect. From the moment we arrived at OV HQ to the minute we finished, the whole experience exceeded our expectations. We were met by the friendly and engaging staff in a lovely setting just outside Dunbar. Offered teas and coffees on arrival and then got changed into top quality gear in the lovely surroundings of some beautifully repurposed stables. The Coasteering itself led by Stevie and Jen was simply fantastic. It was fun, informative and pushed us (just a little!) out of our comfort zones. My son loved it, but the few times he was a little unsure, Jen and Stevie reassured him, and he plowed on happily! Climbing, jumping and swimming our way along the shoreline. We learnt a lot along the way (both instructors providing lots of insight into the shoreline, sea life and local ecosystem). Headed back after the experience and used the wonderfully powerful and clean showers to loosen of the muscles (mainly mine - 44!) and take the salt off before heading for home! Truly fantastic experience, it was a struggle for Stevie and Jen to get us out of the water at the end as we didn't want to leave! Could not recommend this experience and this team highly enough. Thanks to Jen and Stevie, we will...

Oh! I cannot laud this experience enough.

Hats off to our ocean guides - Stevie and Jacob.

I'm still so stoked that I can't get my thoughts in coherent order. The spectacular views, the Dunbar castle ruins...and the moon was still in the sky

Let me start again: On August 24th 2024, Joshua and Ophelie Adeyemi (leaders of Black Scottish Adventurers) gathered 14 intrepid members on a coasteering adventure to Ocean Vertical, Dunbar.

We were met, briefed, and kitted up by Stevie and Jacob - skilled gentlemen they are. Wetsuits, neoprene boots, gloves, life vests...and the ever important Go-pro for immortalising the experience. They both loaded us safely into their vehicles, and drove us to the coast.

There, they very patiently began easing us into the North Sea starting from zero, almost flat water-entry, to jumping off higher levels. We even saw a large spotted seal!

It is pertinent to note that quite a number of us didn't know how to swim, but Stevie and Jacob were always on hand (and in the water) to help us back to where we could climb back up. We literally trusted them with our lives, and they were excellent 👌🏽.

This is an experience everyone should try at least once in...

I have been on a couple of skills days with Ocean Vertical. I absolutely loved it. I will be doing more in the future for sure. I loved learing the skills that will give me the confidence to adventure in the future. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed leaning about geology, the history of mountaineering. I also loved realising that there are opportunities now available and achievable, discovering more of Scotland and the UK, international travel with the view to walking and mountaineering, wild camping and general adventure.

I spend my time with the incredible legendary (and really humble) Molly Hughes and the absolute professional and supremely experienced Stevie Boyle. At all points thought our time I was give the necessary kit, guidance and knowledge.

I really enjoyed spending the time with the other delegates on the courses.

I cannot recommend Ocean Vertical highly enough. I will be booking with them way more in the future.

Either book or get your family, beloved or your self a voucher - you can...

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Winter Hillwalking Experience with Ocean Vertical. After a few days of snow had fallen in the Highlands we booked at pretty short notice and had a brilliant day on Stob a’Choire Odhair with Stevie. Conditions - and Stevie’s choice of mountain given the mixed forecast - were perfect. We learnt a huge amount about being in the mountains in winter (planning, decision-making, use of equipment) and had a whole lot of fun in the process. The smiles at the summit said it all! Stevie took the time to find out what we all wanted from the day and managed the different levels in our group really well, giving just the right level of support and encouragement to the less confident (me!) as well as the right level of challenge to the more confident. Communication before the day was excellent and the pick up and drop off service was great; it means you arrive at the hill fresh (and can snooze on the way home after the day's adventures... ) We're looking forward to our next OV trip!
