Strathblane Falconry — Attraction in Scotland

Both my wife and I felt our time and experience at Strathblane Falconry on Sunday, 26/09/21 was greatly worthwhile. I had arranged this surprise experience for my wife to celebrate our 3rd Anniversary and when she came to know what we were going to be doing she was so delighted. We signed up for the taster session and managed to achieve plenty personal time with the birds. We gained a deeper knowledge of the birds living conditions and at any point of the experience was given the opportunity to ask questions all of which we got answers to. It is with confidence we can say falconry guide Graeme Neilson is a true and dedicated professional. He was friendly, calm and knowledgeable. Graeme gave us clear instructions of what to do and not to do before bringing out the birds. But most of all he was down to earth, passionate and this showed in his birds as they were outstanding in there performance which made our experience even more enjoyable. We had a fantastic afternoon spent at Strathblane Falconry. We got my dad vouchers for the half day falconry experience for his birthday, so my 6 year old son & I went along to watch while my dad took part. Graham was very informative and engaging with the group, involving us all including my son who loved learning all about the birds and interesting facts about them! We loved getting to meet and see lots of the birds, and enjoyed watching my dad and the rest of the group get to handle the birds on the glove and take part in flying demonstrations too. It was a really brilliant afternoon, Graham has so much knowledge and experience and that’s clear to see with how much information he was able to share and how well kept and healthy all of his birds are. Graham also came along to our wedding in 2018 to provide our wedding guests with a falconry experience during our reception and our guests still talk about how fantastic and interesting that was! Outstanding experience on a one to one with Graeme the owner. Received a gift voucher for my 65th and what a great gift. Met Graeme around 10am and went round the centre seeing the birds and talking about their care and welfare. Broke for an excellent lunch (included) at Kirkhouse Inn Strathblane (see my separate review), then back to learn how to fly the birds. Had kestrel, owls and hawks flying onto my gloved hand, what an experience. However, best was walking around the grounds, parkland, wooded areas and gardens, with a Harris Hawk following our every move. It flew in front of us then when we passed it flew between us to another perch, from a tree to the apex of one of the buildings.
