One of the top places in Scotland/the world that landscape photographers MUST visit in almost any weather and at any time... preferably at sunset when the sun isn't hiding too much behind the clouds... because then the sea looks beautifully pink. It is simply a magnificent and breathtaking place for all people. The place speaks of powerful, breathtaking nature, almost like the end of the flat world, if it existed :)
The drive to Neist Point is, let's say, challenging? bumpy? full of terrible potholes, single track with passing places (which many drivers didn't use properly or at all, but that's another topic), promenading sheep... :D If you make it through without a puncture, the next obstacle is to find a parking space.
If you succeed and the weather is to your liking, you can spend hours walking, photographing, droning and observing. The panoramic views are indescribable, even if you just go to the lighthouse viewpoint... but there are so many more places to walk and see (of course you have to play it safe depending on the current weather). It is possible to see dolphins if the gods are with you.
No toilets. It can be very windy, so be careful not to...
Read moreSorry, but I am not buying into the hype. Yes, the location is spectacular, and I am sure the sunsets are magical, but otherwise there is little to recommend the place. The access road is single track with passing places (and horrendously potholed for much of it, just like other roads on Skye) and the drop off from the road surface to the verge is very high in places, threatening damage to tyres, suspensions and exhausts. Maybe not an issue if it is a hire car but if it is your car beware. The road is also clogged with tour busses and motor homes and hire cars whose drivers do not understand the passing place rules. When you get finally there, there are no facilities whatsoever, lacking either toilets or picnic benches. The steps up and down, and the handrails, need some serious maintenance to keep them safe. The lighthouse itself is also in need of some TLC as well. The only upside is that it is free. I won’t be...
Read moreSo beautiful! Just know that if you want to actually get down to the lighthouse it is quite a walk, with a very long staircase so if you have mobility issues just keep that in mind. When you drive up, it looks so gorgeous but you can’t quite see the lighthouse. If you climb the hill to the right and go to the edge of the cliff side, you can see around the large cliff out on the point and the lighthouse is behind that. I wasn’t feeling great that day so I stayed up on those cliffs to take a look while my family went down to the actual lighthouse. Absolutely beautiful though and a...
