ATV Quad Bike Review on 16/04/2021
On the 16th of April I arranged a visit to ATV Centre in Blackwater Cornwall. I wanted to see if I could access the quad bikes and be able to control it, as I only have 1 usable strong arm! On arrival I parked and made way to the reception which had a one way system in place. I was then asked to fill in a waiver form and make payment. The receptionist was very pleasant and efficient. The staff directed me on a non public route to the track, so avoiding steps. Transferring to the quad was tricky for me because of my limited leg movements, but my personal assistant helped me to do this safely. Once on the quad, I geared up in chest armour, knee pads, gloves etc., and a hood to comply with covid measures, for the fitting of a correct sized helmet. This was done whilst on the quad, due to my difficulty transferring on and off the quad. The staff then assessed my ability to control the throttle and the brake (always handy) by completing 3 laps of the test track. I completed this, achieving the required level of control. There are 2 circuits, the basic blue track and the more challenging, red track. As this was my first attempt I stuck to the basic track. Now that I’ve had a go on the blue circuit, I know I have the skills and confidence to handle the quad safely, and intend to venture onto the red track.
I found the experience of driving a 4 x4 quad incredible. I would definitely recommend other wheelchairs users, to visit and try out the quad bikes. It would be advisable to take someone to support you, to assist you on and off the quad. I was not rushed and given time and space to gain my confidence to control the quad.
Covid compliance was well managed and each person taking part was given a full and detailed safety briefing before being allowed on the track.
The staff where extremely patient and supportive throughout.
Two days after my visit I was still suffering with the after effects of such a big workout for me. Due to my limited muscle strength I had to work every muscle as well, as my mental strength to stay on the quad. This was a big challenge for me, but I loved it. On my next visit, I'm definitely up for the challenging...
Read moreHad a blast of a time! Nice mix of fast and slow section, those who are confident and are able to operate the higher power quads can go on the higher level track section which includes loads of banked corners, tight corners, fast straights into jumps and other jumps. 4 wheels off the ground if you want too!
20 minutes was easily enough for me definitely recommend stretching your hands & forearms before hand as it's quite demanding!
Can be a bit annoying slowing down for slower riders and if the rider isn't confident enough and is young they will have a staff member riding behind them to ensure no funny business from the other riders. Can say though one of the staff members needed to get out the way as blocking the half of the track the person they are following isn't blocking isn't fun and puts a downer on the ride for anyone wanting to go faster.
You get fully kitted out with helmets, glasses, body armour, knee and elbow pads and overalls if you havnt got trousers and a long sleeve top on. I'd recommend taking ski goggles or bike goggles if you can as I had trouble comfortably wearing the glasses.
Staff were nice and the quads were great too, loved the track as it had great variety.
4/5 stars because they could improve in some areas but overall a great couple hours out and they do a good job of checking your skill level beforehand on the test track so as far as you can make Motorsport safe I think they've done a good job. Great fun for a wide range of ages they cater for lots of skill levels and...
Read moreOur family decided to squeeze one last thing into our holiday before we went home. So glad we did, this was the absolute highlight of our week!! We had range of ages and we weren't sure if the youngest would manage.....the mums in the group nagged the dads, look after them and to remember the children etc However, we needn't have worried because the staff were incredible! They shadowed the less confident ones which enabled the adults to really enjoy themselves. Each and everyone of them came off there buzzing!! They all had a wonderful time and honestly the best money we spent all week. Had we of done this at the beginning of the week, we would have done it again without a doubt. If you are near by, if you are tempted I say go for it because my lot will be raving about this for a long time to come. Staff....thank you all, you made sure everyone was safe, and knew how to keep safe but also enabled everyone to have a great time and get the most of their time on the track. From the practice track, to the main it was all well managed and flowed smoothly. I should also add, my son is deaf and I made sure they knew this and as they were explaining things I saw how they adapted themselves to face him, use gestures etc I was stoked! You guys are amazing, this place is fabulous, for all...
