Have been going to Mt Hawke since I was a child but hadn't been since the redesign. Had some mixed feelings about it -
The good: the staff are awesome. Really lovely and friendly. The recreation area and cafe ia lovely and really well kitted out with sofas, benches, table tennis and projector.
The not so good: the new park layout. Some key aspects are missing entirely and the layout has little flow to it. When it's busy it is carnage in the middle area as BMX, scooters and skaters fly around the same central area that all the obstacles are based around. It's also clearly set out for more advanced riders - the rails and boxes are double the height of most park obstacles, there is no 'normal' mini ramp anymore (there used to be 2), there is no decent street section. The street obstacles are in the middle of fast paced lines that BMX and faster riders blast through. It feels like there is nowhere that you're not in somebody's way. It's a super fast park now so if you just want to roll up to a box or rail and practice you'll struggle to be able to. I much, much preferred the '3 section' layout of before where people were generally riding lines in predictable directions and with more obstacles for less advanced riders. There are currently 2 ledges by the rail of equal, high height. One could have been made lower to accomodate for people who struggle to ollie waist high. It's a shame as the park used to be awesome for...
Read moreNo flow to the park, ok half pipe. The one way system doesn’t work at all with a small bank going to a bigger bank. makes no sense. Ledges too tall. Ledge next to a rail next to a hip next to a kicker all within a 10m squared space makes no sense. Too much focus on bmxers and bikers. Outside bit looks pretty good with a manny pad to drop and a nice rail for beginners at a good height. ledge in the middle of a hip makes absolutely no sense, coming out of that is impossible and dangerous to skaters. Food looks good and fairly kid friendly but not a lot of parents keep an eye on their kids. Good for transition if you’re ok with slippery ramps. This park is somewhat similar to bay 66 but lesser.
price is really good though, 8.50 for up to 4 hours. nice lady...
Read moreHuge indoor Skatepark located near Truro in Cornwall. Lots of space to ride here. Nice big vert , for those who can actually ride them.
Different sized mini ramp complex. Big wooden bowl with pool coping, which was a nice touch. Big flowy street section which offers plenty of variety.
A big rhythm section which tends to keep scooters out of the way.
Overall, really good, one of the best indoor parks we've been to so far.
Outdoor skatepark is a cool add on as well, you have access to both parks.
Smooth concrete, with that lovely blue paint you get with a Maverick built park. Rad...
