We stayed in town for four nights. Going to the beach after dinner was a thing we did daily. Just a short walk away from our BnB and restaurants. It's a very lively place this beach. All kind of folks of all ages. Just enjoying the sun, the views, the water. Everybody seemed to be in a good mood. It is a fantastic spot, this beach. And watching the sunset is just amazing, doesn't matter how often you've seen it. I love sunsets. When the sun is down it can get quite cool though - even in summer.
It's a very clean beach as well and pretty wide. There's enough space for everybody. For BBQ, to play, to relax, to walk your dogs.
The water itself is pretty cold and depending on the winds pretty rough. But we didn't plan on swimming anyways. It's just a beautiful place. To get even better views you can walk up the small trail on the eastern side of the beach.
The beach is dog-friendly in the evenings all year! That was a pleasant suprise. Our Bulldog loved it - at least as much as we did.
The Blue Bar just at this beach is probably your best bet for dinner in town. We enjoyed it.
There is parking at the beach, it's a pretty big lot, but was full on the weekend.
A really great beach in a lovely small town....
Read moreAbsolutely beautiful beach. Great for surfing, rock pooling, paddling, bodyboarding and swimming. Surfboard and wetsuit rental, two pubs, cafe, a park and a shop situated all about five minutes from the beach, as well as as another pub at the top of Porthtowan, at Towan Cross. Car parking available, but may be hard to find spaces at the height of the summer. At low tide you can walk to Lushingtons or Chapel Porth Beach, but be aware and know the tide times because you can become trapped. This beach can have bad currents and rip tides, but is life guarded, and will have the flags up throughout the summer. Because of offshore wind, it is recommended that you don’t use inflatables in the water. Dogs aren’t allowed on the beach from Easter until October.
If you’re thinking about visiting this beach on holiday, please make sure to either take your rubbish home with you or put it in a bin. The locals do their best picking up waste, but during the holidays it seems to be littered with bottles, nappies, straws, beer cans and plastic lollipop sticks. None of which belong...
Read moreNice beach, car parking - some free, small village shop and post office. A small 'ethical' retailer selling lots of cool bits. Minerals! Plants, artisan bread, art, food stuffs.... etc etc etc. Lovely lady as well. Two pubs/restaurants - both expensive, both very different in thier offerings. There was a really cool hot dog stand during the summer, pasties from the village shop are passable. Great surf shop with actual hardwear......not just clothes. Surf lessons and equipment hire also available 😃 run by well organised but very laid-back staff. There is a second surf place down there as well, they mostly offer lessons/hire only - again nice people. Oh, there is also a holiday/bucket and spade shop, two hairdressers and a great cafe which offers a more informal menu, well presented and good value. Best coffee in the village im told. Great views, good coastal walks with reliable and regular connecting bus service between St. Agnes...
