READ WHOLE REVIEW FOR CHANGES TO VISIT FROM SUMMER 2018 IN CAPITALS
Began visiting and camping in 2014
A place full of history and beauty. One of my most favourite destinations all year round.
Public toilets on the carpark. Attendants visit during the day but they are rarely clean and soap is never in the hand cleaning machines!! though you have to pay!! RIDICULOUS TO PAY FOR A LESS THAN GOOD SERVICE BY DANFO
Bus access from St David's out to various points every half hour between May and September via the costal and Celtic cruisers, whitesands being one of them. £1.50 an adult and 1 kid goes free per adult.
Camping is enjoyable but busy in peak times. Camping by the carpark is first come first served and pretty much runs itself. shower and toilet block which are very old. One shower each for male and female so sometimes it's a case of wait your turn. 7 mins of hot water for a one pound token which is purchased at the carpark hut in the day. No reservations and no booking needed. Turn up and find a spot then see Pete at the hut in the day. He's usually there between 9 and 5 I will say though that sometimes the relaxed nature towards running the site can cause issues especially with roaming dogs and owners not always cleaning up after them.
summer 2018 OWNER (JOHN NOT PETE) HAS NOW RAISED PRICES. ITS MORE EXPENSIVE FOR ADULTS AT £8 PER NIGHT AND £3 A CHILD. HE CHARGES FOR DOGS. CARS. AWNINGS. NO MOTORHOMES ALLOWED. ALL WITHOUT ANY UPGRADE TO THE SITE.
The cafe is a great place to pop in for a coffee, food or a few beach essentials. Run by a lovely family with lovely staff. Food is awesome and being a Staffordshire lass it's well worth noting that the savoury pancakes are in fact Oatcakes. This is a big thing for me. Summer 2018 THE CAFE IS NOW CLOSING AND A NEW LEASE IS BEING TAKEN FOR A RESTAURANT. NO LONGER A CONVENIENCE STORE AND EASY EATING!
Well worth a day out BUT THE FACILITIES ARE NOT THE SAME AND EXPENSIVE. VERY SAD!!!! I DID NOT CAMP THIS YEAR BECAUSE OF THE GREEDY CHANGE IN PRICES..... GO...
Read moreOff season is the best time to go. A certain times of year parking is free. If you are walking out to St David's Head and then head north you should look out for the WW1 Submarine Stethoscope (photo in my collection). Heading west at low tides you should be able to spot the superstructure of a small shipwreck (tug/fishing boat?) - and if you are extremely lucky there is a historic wreck (The Bolina - 1833?) which is sometimes uncovered when conditions are right and there is an exceptionally low tide. You may have to wait for 20 years though as this happens infrequently. It is possible to walk around to Porth Selau - again only when there is a very low tide but care must be taken - no hanging around! There's a good sea cave to explore - if you have a boat/paddle board etc between Whitesands and Porth Melgan. A good 'circular' walk follows the coastal path to St. Justinian; and then either back to the path via Rhosson and the Pencarnan footpath, or following lanes, again passing Rhosson and then keeping W of St Davids, past the gold course and down to Whitesands Bay. Another (much longer) walk will take you via St David's Head N along the coastal path to Abereiddy Bay or Porthgain. Getting back is...
Read moreThis beach is a truly awesome and tremendous beach for all. It is good sized in terms of width and gets truly large as the tide goes out. The car park is ample (although it does cos £5 for the day). Among the things to do here are surfing, playing games in the sand, climbing the nearby cliffs (on established trails), and exploring the many tidal pools left among the rocks as the tide recedes. If you are lucky, you may encounter a deal and her pup at certain points if the year. There are many visitors who bring their dogs to run on the expansive beach and it adds to the family atmosphere. Please note that dogs are banned here during the height of the tourist season due to the high popularity of the beach. Among the amenities, there are public bathrooms (40p for a visit, but they are debit card capable), a wonderful cafe serving wonderful food throughout the day, and a proprietor renting out deck lounges, windbreakers, and umbrellas for those who need them. The only thing you really need to bring is yourself ready to have...
