The museum is beautiful, it is situated in the visitors

We entered through the small back gate at the front of the castle next to the bus stop.

This gate is not wheelchair friendly and you would have to use the vehicle entrance if you are in a wheelchair which just a few yards away.

There are cameras and there is a sign which is not very clearly spelled out with instructions how to gain entry.

We did not understand and were heading away when the gate swung opened, so clearly the kind soul maning the cameras seen our confusion and opened the gate anyway. Thank you to that person.

You are supposed to press the buzzer and they will let you in.

If you are driving, then the main entrance to the back of the property has parking for £6 for the day, but entry is free.

There was a wedding in the Castle but the beautiful gardens were open. It being summer, all the flowers were in full bloom and all the benches were taken up with people enjoying the beautiful afternoon summer sunshine amoung the flowers.

We made our way through the many levels of gardens down to the other side where the historic buildings and visitors centre are located.

And enjoyed the different exhibitions.

We forgot that the Gwalia Shops are historic and therefore you need to bring cash.

I don't know there is a cashpoint at the visitor centre as we only went through the exhibition hall and not the front entrance, so we didn't get to buy anything this...

My recent visit to St Fagans Castle and its gardens left me utterly mesmerized. This historic estate is a true testament to the grandeur and beauty of Wales’ past.

The castle itself exudes an air of sophistication and charm. Walking through its well-preserved rooms, I felt like I was stepping into a bygone era. The attention to detail in the architecture and interior decor is awe-inspiring, offering a glimpse into the lives of the aristocracy.

The gardens surrounding the castle are nothing short of a botanical masterpiece. The meticulously manicured lawns, vibrant flower beds, and serene water features create a tranquil oasis that invites relaxation and contemplation. Exploring the various themed gardens was a delightful journey in itself.

What truly sets this destination apart is the seamless blend of history and nature. As I wandered through the grounds, I could almost hear the whispers of the past, carried by the gentle breeze. The informative plaques and helpful staff further enhanced my understanding of the estate’s significance.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply seeking a serene escape, St Fagans Castle and its gardens offer a delightful experience. It’s a captivating blend of elegance, history, and natural beauty that captivates the senses. A visit here is not just a journey through time but a journey of the soul. Highly...

A brilliant museum, free to visit, loads to see and plenty to do.

Worth taking a picnic if taking kids or a big group,

Dependent of time of year, there are varied and interesting events to see and do, so keep up to date with the website.

The walks are beautiful and easy, and mobility scooters will cope easily too, there aren't many steep routes, and almost all buildings are at least accessible (ground floor only) in a wheelchair or smaller mobility scooters.

Plenty of benches and picnic tables around the site, and toilets are available in several places.

If you intend on doing a full visit, then I would suggest getting there at opening time, especially if you are a person who enjoys properly exploring and reading about where you are.

On site food is available in several locations, it's not too badly priced, but considering the visit is free, the food prices are expectable. However, the food is great quality...

We actually set out to visit here, from Newport on the buses. We caught the 30 from Newport bus station. This takes you on a lovely journey through the countryside. Then goes to the new Cardiff bus terminal where a few steps along , you can pick up the St Fagans bus, direct to the museum. A fab service. The only downside is, the last bus leaves the museum at 14.55.. We used our time to look around the castle and gardens. Which are really beautiful. Well laid out. And a choice of using the steps or a longer route that is very good for buggies and wheelchair access. So we managed to do about a third of the museum today. However, it won't be long and we will be back, to explore the rest of the park. Hopefully, we will be as lucky with the beautiful weather! 😊 and maybe interest our friends in Coming with us. The children would love the treetop obstacles cause!.

Absolutely stunning! £6 all day car park to be booked in advance due to Covid. When you start the walk, there are 2 options: turn right or left. Left is the larger walk that takes you round the entire grounds, we chose to turn right and get to the castle quicker. We passed a tree tops rope adventure, many beautiful flowers and trees, a mill, Italian gardens.. everything was beautifully maintained and there were toilets on route aswell. We were accompanied by an electric scooter user, although not all paths were wheelchair friendly, we managed to get around without issues (even though some parts were made longer). Cafe on site serves welsh cakes and coffee, sandwiches and cold refreshments that can be taken away or eaten on many of the tables and chairs on site. Dog friendly and perfect for picnics, will definitely be revisiting!

Love this place! It’s free too, they have a donation box at the front if you want to contribute to the upkeep. Great especially if you love culture and history! Definitely worth a visit. Gives you so much insight into Welsh life and history. Plus cute little gift shops, decorated in traditional Welsh style, how they would have been in the past and a local bakery that actually sells fresh bread and cakes etc, again just like an old village style bakery. It’s a VERY big place and you will need all day to get around it. But… it’s a lot of walking so bare that in mind if you struggle with health/mobility issues. It is accessible, although some houses you can’t get into with a wheelchair unfortunately.
