Howdy, we went caving with Megan (she was very nice, and knew her stuff) cave was spectacular and involved climbing, crawling, swimming and slot cavern descending. We stopped at various points to admire the scenery and Megan told us a lot of interesting facts. The clothing was very well provided and very professional and durable. At one point there was an are where the water was up to my waist and water entered my wellingtons. Splish splosh. The mid hills were muddy (as described.) the blue tubes were spooky and blue. At one point, we were in pitch black darkness. It was very relaxing. RIP Gerald the rabbit who met his untimely demise. Would highly recommend to anyone who is not claustrophobic, especially if you have Megan as the guide. The showers were nice and warm and the cafe was exceptional. The chocolate brownie and sausage sandwich were exquisite. Didn’t do the gorge walking but it looked fun. Will return to do the gorge walking. The glass floors in the cafe were innovative as you could dine above a 50ft drop. Overall, Megan was a great guide and made us feel welcome and comfortable, and the experience and the food were highly enjoyable. If you are contemplating going to how stean gorge, then I...

Great fun! Reverted back to being a child when we visited here. Parked up in the car park and made our way to the shop/cafe the purchase our entry ticket. Once done we were told we could pick up a hard hat and work our way around the area, the hard hats are a must as there are low, over hanging rocks, when you hear that tap on your head, even after thinking you have stooped low enough, you know you made the right choice donning one. The mini via ferrata was fun, we had a dog with us who loved it and took it all in her stride. We walked down alongside the river and had a picnic by the water which was lovely and peaceful. After finding the cave we got out the torches and ventured down into the dark, again the hard hats are a must. We popped out of the cave in a field close to where we were parked, by this point it was raining so we popped back to the dog friendly cafe and had a cuppa before we sett off to Brimham rocks to finish the day off. Fun place in a...

We booked in for the canoeing, dark skies and pizza night. Not cheap cost over £110 for 3 but thought it would be a nice treat. Rang up on the day to pre-order the pizza (not included in the booking btw) only to be told there was no chef on and it needed to be booked a few weeks in advance. Fair enough I suppose we could have called earlier but not made clear at the time.

Got an email later in the day saying the canoeing was cancelled due high winds which was fine can’t do anything about the weather but the alternative was a high wire experience which oddly was safe. I am sure it was but that did seem a really curious alternative. Add to the fact that the activity was taking place in a gorge and there was cloud cover we did wonder what link this could have to the Dark Skies festival! In the end we decided not to go. A three hour round trip without any canoeing or pizza or star gazing on a cloudy night sounds like a total waste of...

First came here as a child some 40 years ago and was keen to revisit and see how if at all the place had changed. I am pleased to report that the old magic and sense of adventure was very much still there. Took the gorge walk and literally every way you look is another picture perfect scene, accented by the late autumnal colours. The hard hat that is offered at the start of the walk is very much necessary, particularly on the approach to and then descent into Tom Taylor's Cave. So that vague memory I had of mum letting us run through a cave with nothing but a torch and a funny hat on turned out to be true after all. You need to be aware that there are genuine dangers here. The instructions from the staff and the signs on the route are not just theatre to big up the excitement of the place. But if you heed the safety instructions and stay within your own limitations you will find a place you want to spend a lifetime coming back to as well.

We stayed on a Friday before the wedding and Saturday night. The owners kindly lit our private wood-fired hot tub so that it was only needing topping up with wood when we arrived around 5pm. We were the video photography team for the wedding in How Stean Gorge Cafe, so didn't have time to take advantage of the exciting adventures available in the gorge itself. The staff did wonders getting all the delicious food out in time, and vegetarians and other special diets were all catered for. The cabin itself was very cosy, even without the fire lit in November 25 and there was plenty of hot water for showers an d washing up. The local pub was also great for our meal on the first night.
