Great place to visit, have a short hike and generally enjoy nature. At the time we went we didn't see any red squirells. We did see some peacocks and some ducks. All in all it's definitely worth visiting maybe see what's there to do on the island and prepare from before I'd say it can be worth camping for a night or two although we haven't. The castle is actually not accessible for general public on its majority since it is used as a hotel by John Lewis staff from what I was told by some locals...

We arrived a day early (our fault entirely), but they managed to accommodate us, thankfully, and all the staff were charming, despite the inconvenience I'm sure we caused everyone. Top marks to housekeeping. I don't know how much more they have to do in these continuing odd times, but everything was gleaming and spotlessly clean. Food was excellent. Read moreThis is the loveliest castle where we had the opportunity to stay. The grounds are fabulous and extensive. The food is lovely and the staff is so welcoming. Andrew manager knows a lot and is very helpful. The Dorset Wildlife Trust is located on the islands and is a fab place to spot birds in the lagoon.
