Great place to visit, have a short hike and generally enjoy nature. At the time we went we didn't see any red squirells. We did see some peacocks and some ducks. All in all it's definitely worth visiting maybe see what's there to do on the island and prepare from before I'd say it can be worth camping for a night or two although we haven't. The castle is actually not accessible for general public on its majority since it is used as a hotel by John Lewis staff from what I was told by some locals...

Just such a lovely place to stay. We arrived a day early (our fault entirely), but they managed to accommodate us, thankfully, and all the staff were charming, despite the inconvenience I'm sure we caused everyone. Top marks to housekeeping. I don't know how much more they have to do in these continuing odd times, but everything was gleaming and spotlessly clean. Food was excellent. Weather was fantastic for mid November. Can't recommend this place enough. Like stepping back in...

This is the loveliest castle where we had the opportunity to stay. The grounds are fabulous and extensive. The food is lovely and the staff is so welcoming. Andrew manager knows a lot and is very helpful. The Dorset Wildlife Trust is located on the islands and is a fab place to spot birds in the lagoon. Red squirrels are the big draw and so are deer and peacocks if you can spot them. There is a lot to do on the island and about. It is a great place to relax. Very fortunate to...

This place belongs to John Lewis, so unless you work or know someone that does work for JL then you can't stay here. However the island itself is worth visiting, approx 3 mile circuit around the island will provide you with breathtaking views, red squirrels and other wildlife. There is also a bird watching nature reserve (not part of the 3 mile circuit) so allow extra time. National trust cafe and shop for refreshments and other goodies.

Peaceful. Calming site that was neither overly crowded nor touristy. The voyage over was also enjoyable and highly civilized. The weather was perfect and we had lunch outside watching the tide go out. There’s plenty to see and do on the island so it is easy to make a day or half day excursion. I think my favorite thing was watching the tide retreat from the castle.
