It's hard to believe how few people visit here. Blast Beach is stunning, you can immediately see why it's part of the Durham Heritage Coast. There's plenty of parking near Nose's Point or its an easy 30 minute walk from Seaham (40 from the station). Thanks to the National Trust's cleanup project, you'd never know this was previously the home to the biggest coal mine in Europe. Interestingly, we also found out that Blast Beach was used in the in opening scenes of Alien 3, no doubt for its otherworldly vistas. We saw a lot of dogs having the time of their lives, and a few kids hunting sea-glass. We were told you could see Dolphins swimming in the bay on a good day, but we weren't so lucky. There's no food options close by so make sure to bring plenty. If you're in the mood for an ice cream, there's a truck at the parking lot that takes cash only.

In the early 1990s millions of tons of colliery waste was tipped onto the Blast Beach from the nearby Dawdon Colliery. This resulted in the creation of a lunar landscape, which led to it being used in the opening scene of the film Alien 3. Following the closure of the colliery and the cessation of tipping the sea has eroded the raised beach and transformed it, leading to it being awarded Heritage Coast status. The Blast Beach is off the beaten track and well worth a visit for anyone seeking tranquility.

Perfect place for a walk with the dog along the cliff tops or even along the Blast beach on a sunny day. Hot drinks vendor in Nose's point car park for those who haven't brought refreshments with them. Plenty of space for kids to run around. Favourite place for fishermen to spend hours drowning worms in the hope of catching something a bit bigger. Plenty of car parking spaces for more than 50 vehicles. Not quite as much Sea glass to be found there unlike Seaham Hall beach though 🤣

If you are looking for silky smooth sands the Blast Beach isn’t for you. But that isn’t to say that this beach hasn’t got a charm of it’s own. Industry left it’s mark on this coastline and created some dramatic and unusual features. Great for photography. The beach is accessed at it’s north end near the Noses Point car park by a steep path. It can be a slippy descent. Alternately a walk along the cliff top southwards will bring you to a set of steps that lead down to the beach about a mile from the car park. The two access points mean that you can do a nice round trip. The beach is pebbly although the top edge of it is flat and easier to walk on. At the north end of the beach there are a series of large sea caves which are worth exploring but bear in mind that they are tidal. There are also a couple of small sea stacks on this beach. Parking is free and although there are no facilities Seaham is not far away and this summer, 2020, there is a small van selling coffee and cookies which is...

Nice beach to walk along, I'm new to the area so wasn't sure how to get down there. The entrance near the car park can be a little dangerous so be careful but if you walk along the cliff top path towards the end of the beach you will see some stairs that go down to the beach below which is much easier. The pools are still toxic and you can find an entrance to a mine, It has bars to stop people going inside. A lot of history here, very interesting landscape. Well worth a visit and the parking is free and loads of spaces, also a nice place for a picnic on...
