I frequent Hetton Lyons Country Park and remains one of my favourite places to visit. The Park offers a variety of walks such as enclosed woodland, open lakeside walk, bridleways and field walks. The park also offers horse riding trails, fishing, cycle paths, football pitches, play park, cycle park, paddleboarding and other outdoor adventure event games.
There is also a lovely cafe on site with outdoor seating and plants grown from volunteers on site to buy. There are also toilets onsite in the building off the main car park.
Parking can get difficult on event days so be prepared to leave your car on verges on busier days. Bearing in mind parking and access to the park is free, you can't grumble.
This is a fabulous place for dog walks and during the day you can walk dogs without bumping into many people on the woodland/horse riding trails.
There are also a couple ponds off the main lake that allows fishing (possibly with a permit or permission only) and watching wildlife such as swans, Moor hens, kingfishers...
