I first came across Lightwater Country Park about 20 years ago, on a ramble across the heathland, when the park was being carved out with many raw pathways and tracks. This recollection was confirmed when I saw on the noticeboard that the park had received a Green Flag award for 25years of consistently high standards. On this occasion, I had come to check out the cafe as a suitable place to take my wife, who has dementia. Parking in front of the café is limited, but there is more space further along the road and turn right, which comes round to the side of the café. This is where some handy public toilets are situated. The path to the café is a bit rough and unmade, so I imagine it would be a bit slippery and possibly muddy in wet weather. Going inside the café the first impression is that it is rather dark, mainly because it is constructed with wood in the manner of an alpine chalet. I would have liked it to be better lit or all painted white. There was an extensive lunch menu on the wall. I just had an Americano coffee with a piece of thick bakewell tart, which taken outside was very pleasant. All in all very satisfactory and I will include in the list of places I can take my wife, in fine weather. There are many reviews of the park on the Internet. I read that the size of the park is 89 hectares = 220 acres; the football pitch across the road must take a big chunk of that. The road out of the park through the end of Lightwater village can be congested at some times of day, due to back up from...

With the sun making an appearance we decided to venture to Lightwater Country Park, and our tastebuds got to try an exciting new dish at the cafe there.
The cafe is in a perfect location, in the heart of the Country Park, right next to the playground and a beautiful setting for a walk. Please see my review from our last visit. https://redkitedays.co.uk/lightwater-country-park-cafe/
We were spoilt for choice with the freshly made pastries and cakes. Today’s specialities were poppy seed cake, carrot cake, chocolate chip cookie, cinnamon bun, and an almond croissant. They all tasted incredible and were paired perfectly with a delicious latte - my favourite had to be the poppy seed cake, although would recommend them all 😋
Now my Dad isn’t very adventurous and opted for a Full English, but WOW, look how incredible this was. It was a meal fit for a king, cooked to perfection and made his tastebuds tingle. Seeing the special my Mum and I decided to try this out, sweet potato fritters topped with creamy avocado, a perfectly poached egg and crispy kale for that extra crunch. This dish left a symphony of flavours in my mouth, it was spectacular to look and even more incredible bite after bite.
One of our favourite activities is to feed the birds here, but today there seemed to be lots of seagulls so the ducks and geese hardly got any bread. No idea why so many seagulls were around - nonetheless the little ones enjoyed...

Dog friendly cafe, toilets, picnic benches, kids play area, sports pitch, mini golf and lovely walks with a great view.
Quite a few different routes you can take if you're walking, and most of the way we walked was buggy friendly.
Dogs under control are welcome off lead, though in the summer months there are some areas (clearly sign posted and can be avoided) where dogs need to be on leads due to ground nesting birds. Plenty of dog poo bins about.
If you're after the view point, there are steps, but you can get around that if you need to (though it's a steep hill).
We had a nice cuppa from the cafe on our way out to walk, and a cold drink and ice cream when we got back.
We...
