Some of my earliest memories are of feeding the donkeys here and peering at the seemingly exotic budgies in what felt like the giant aviary. 40 years on its still a family destination even if im not the kid (no sign of the donkey) and a lovely open space - albeit now ringed by a mature tree line (conkers at the far end) for shelter. Connects to the lakes at the back and provides areas including a play area (under complete reconstruction presently) and small maze made from caged boulders. Also there are ornamental formal gardens, a pond, some surviving chainsaw sculptures (more were vandalised). There are historical links to the area. You enter over an old flax pond and also there are references to the venerable Master McGrath (famous greyhound of yesteryear). Animals now have a separate area to themselves more nearby than adjoining - and more of a city farm with also a separate plant nursery. Much better than before. The old aviary has been moved to here....few budgies now. There are loos I'm sure and at certain times cups of tea have been sold here. Im too infrequent a visitor to be up to date with current provision. Its a cheerful destination for local families. Also its a welcome break or target for those circumnavigating the lakes with kids. Not fabulous or splendid but fun and...
Read moreI tried to look at reviews and on the website to see if you can feed the animals. Researched that the animals could all eat what I prepared only to get there to signs everywhere saying "Don't feed the animals" - there was no staff around, so I left it at the office door. Hopefully they'll use it a d not throw it away. Disappointed that you can't feed them as that was the attraction to going to see them. One of the chickens was injured on it's rear end, and the piglets pen was a disgusting mess. Felt sorry for them slipping in their own waste and it stunk. The toilets were okay but could do with a scheduled clean throughout the day. Hand washing facilities at the end which you're encouraged to use. Ignore Google maps farm location and drive to the Tannaghmore Animal Farm parking area - follow the brown attraction roadsigns. I was just passing on the way to Belfast - won't be returning. However, if feeding was allowed I'd have returned when...
Read moreFirst of its so easy to get to , 5 mins off the motorway and has its own free parking. There's a modest farm just off the car park with your typical breeds but it is also free . It's a short circular walk with a wash station at the end , great for the young ones. Follow the signs around the path to get to the new play park and a lovely park it is with plenty of activities , seating and bbq spots . There's beautiful gardens around that area too and even a maze to explore . I would bring my own refreshments as I seen nowhere to buy any drinks etc. Would get the day out if it , a...
