Great beach, everything from rock pools to building sand castles. Beach is long and beautiful for long walks. Lots of surfing and kites, some extreme. Points to remember, keep an eye on the tide, no point going to the beach if there’s a high tide. If going into the sea, check for the life guards and flags. If taken a dog, the left hand side of the beach is closed to dogs during the summer. Plenty of parking on the burrows, during the summer you can pay for a day or week pass. Westward Ho! is a beach geared up to cater for every tourist's needs. With seaside shops, toilets and a range of food outlets, Westward Ho! is a popular family beach.
Made up of a long sandy beach backed by a pebble ridge with Northam Burrows Country Park accessible at one end this beach offers the best of both sand rock pools and nature. RNLI Lifeguard service is available from May to September and the beach is popular with windsurfers surfers and swimmers. Dogs are permitted from October to April on the whole beach and all year round at the Northam Burrows end. There is ample car parking and disabled parking close to the beach.
The wonderful surf that runs on to Westward Ho! draws surfers from miles around and with designated surfing areas the beach caters for every activity. The surf is also home to wild sea bass attracting anglers from all over the country. Equipment for bathing surfing and angling is readily available from...
Read moreLovely beach, all seasons. Watch out for the tides as when it's in, no beach access unless it's lower tidal patterns, then some sand may still be available to access from the Sandymere end. Located further away from the Westward Ho! Village. Great for surfing, body boarding swimming, etc. Shallow water with very gradual gradient to deeper water. Lifeguards on the beach in summer. Dog restrictions in place in the summer. Can be very 🐕 at peak times and rather manic. Dogs have to be kept under control at all times, and all waste disposed of at the dog bins in the car park. Water quality is usually good, but do check Surfers Against Sewage site as there are discharges at times from SW Water that should not be happening. Closest access and parking in the Northam Burrows country Park which is more suited to long stay, or buy a weekly access ticket. Entrances near Westward Ho! And further east at Sandymere lane. Enjoy, have...
Read moreLovely sandy beach as well as excellent rock pooling and a sea filled pool. At high tide there is only a steep pebble ridge, no beach, and at low tide there is quite a stroll from the slipway to the actual sea, but neither of these things are an issue, you can just time your visit accordingly. Lovely walk along the beach too passing surf schools doing their thing along the way. Dogs only allowed on the beach stretch further away from westward `Ho! centre but we did see a few people breaking this rule with dogs there and loose. My children loved their body boarding here buying wetsuits and boards cheaply in the centre, as well as rockpooling buckets and nets. There are toilets and some wall showers just at the top of the slipway and many places for drinks and food just at the top of the slipway too, along with adventure gold, arcades, and go karts for some off...
