I will give 1* because of the ice cream van / cabin The strong smell of gasoline from the transformer ,gas fume volume comes from the exhaust, Inhaling gasoline can be harmful for all the kids playing in the playground area also for the staff of the ice cream van. We stayed 1 hour in the playground area with 2 kids, the transformer engine was running all the time which eliminated a lot of gasoline smells into the air and makes few people dizzy, including myself. The ice cream van needs to be moved somewhere far from the playground area , not really safe for kids health also for anyone who inhaling the gasoline produce from that transformer engine. I hope someone from Wakefield council reads this review. Apart from that, everything is ok, the playground is well renovated, comparing how it was before. 2025 it looks like a few quid more important than kids health....

It's just a superb park for adults, kiddies & teens, it basically has everything you'd need, a racecourse which surrounds it for a fantastic walk with hidden water pools! It also is placed strategically aside a sports centre & shopping complex The playground area is immensely good, something in it for all ages The lake is superb for a few laps of jogging or a walk, inhabited by a large flock of geese &,ducks, just watch out for the large goose poops where they congregate! There's also an outdoor gym set to get in a work out after your stroll/jog There's always the same ice cream van selling delicious treats, and there's a cafe at the top of the racecourse too Plenty of parking at most times, except on race days when it gets unbearable haha! A superb day out that my kids love no matter how many times we've been! Highly recommended

Pontefract Park is an absolute gem! I’m there often with my boy, and we both always have a fantastic time. The park is spacious, with lush greenery, well-maintained pathways, and a serene atmosphere. We love the beautiful lake for peaceful walks and feeding the ducks. The children's playground is modern and safe, keeping my boy entertained for hours. There are plenty of spots for picnics and activities like jogging or cycling. The sports facilities, including football pitches and a golf course, are top-notch. Even without staff, the park is clean, well-kept, and easy to navigate. Pontefract Park is perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle. Highly recommended for families and visitors alike. We can't wait to go back!

A large open area where a horse race course (flat) runs around its perimeter and as done for centuries. There is a main stand and spectator enclosures with car parking. A lake is on this site but the rowing boats have long since departed. Fishing ponds are also here , a site for flying model aeroplanes is popular. A footpath runs around the entire race course on the inside of the horse race track and is popular with strollers, walkers, and jogger's other footpaths run off this park to surrounding other areas. There is a small children's park with equipment for them , and a new council run gym and swimming pool along with outside sport courts have recently been built. This park is quite popular with residents of the local and not...
