A lovely walk along the canal, taking you through a wooded area & passed a small detached holiday cottage which then brings you to a cafe called Penelopes Cafe. We stopped off for ice cream & water for our puppy on a hot day. There is a large sitting area outside of the cafe overlooking the cottage & canal. An ideal place to relax & take in the scenery. We didn't have a meal, just ice cream in a tub & fresh water is provided for four legged hounds. Although the ice cream was quite expensive, £7.50 for two scoops of ice cream in two tubs, it was lovely ice cream & went down very well on a hot day. Hot & cold meals & snacks can be purchased in the cafe. Inside is nice & cosy with alot of unusual ornaments including a life size statue of a canal worker 100 years ago & a glass table with the legs being two legs of a horse & its nose. The staff are friendly & helpful & the restaurant & toilets are nice & clean. Highly recommend a visit for a nice relaxing walk & then...

At the time of our visit 2.30pm to 3.00pm it was very cold inside. No radiators on so it was never going to warm up. There was about 2 other tables with people sat down so not busy. We ordered 2 meals (lasagne and beef burger). We could hear someone bellowing in the kitchen that they couldn't believe that someone had ordered a burger meal so late in the day.... they closed at 5.00pm! With only two meals to cook they seemed to take an age and even then my wife's meal was presented a good 10 minutes or longer before the burger meal appeared. The Bacon in the burger was over cooked leathery and very salty. The burger itself had a base about 4mm thick of burnt beyond caramelised crust which was difficult to cut through with a serrated knife! Unfortunately it was inedible and had to go back! A refund was made for the burger meal with an apology but the overall experience was unfortunate. It is unlikely we will return! A...

We recently hired a day boat from ABC Day Boat Hire and had a fantastic experience! Our group consisted of three adults, seven children, and even our dog – and the boat was spacious and comfortable enough for all of us to enjoy the day together. The canal route was absolutely scenic, with beautiful countryside views and peaceful stretches of water that made for a relaxing and enjoyable trip. It was a perfect way to spend a day outdoors, and the kids loved the adventure of being on the water. A special mention to Dom, who gave us our induction before we set off. He was incredibly friendly, patient, and informative – making sure we felt confident and safe before heading out. His clear instructions and helpful tips made a big difference, especially as we had such a big group. Overall, it was a brilliant day out. We'd highly recommend ABC Day Boat Hire to anyone looking for a fun and memorable experience...

Our first visit to a beautiful day along a local canal. It is £1 to park, so make sure you have a coin on you. Short walk from car park to the canal basin. There were a number of barges that you can pay to ride. Nothing too expensive but you can also hire a barge - please check the website. To get on the footpath there is a short walk under a bridge and then quite a steep walk up an incline. Once at the top you can head right, which takes you in the direction of Brecon or left taking you back towards Pontypool. We went left and had a lovely, quiet walk along the canal for around 45 mins before heading back. Called into Penelope's cafe for a Peroni and a toasted sandwich. We sat outside as the weather was lovely. Slight disappointment in the cleanliness of the toilets, situated behind and outside of the cafe. There are tear off maps in Penelope's cafe but did not see these until almost at the end of our day.
